Please pray for my recovery

Posted on 03/09/2006 1:27:09 PM PST by alnick

I've just been diagnosed with malignant carcinoid which has spread to the liver. Going for CT tomorrow to determine the extent of this thing. Please pray that we've found it in time and for my full recovery, and especially for strenght and comfort for my family.

Thank you.

May you and your family get through this tough time with a stiff upper lip and a positive attitude. It will do wonders for both you and them. You can look at this as the glass half empty or the glass half full. I prefer the latter view. Hope you can too. Best of luck to you on the results of your test and fight the good fight.

Prayers lifted for you & yours Alnick!
In 1981, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. When I asked the Doctor what would happen if I didn't have the surgery, He said: "You'll die".Thankfully,he referred me to a neurologist at Stanford University Clinic in Palo Alto, Calif. I'm sharing this with you in hopes it will give you comfort in knowing the three ingredients he suggested to focus on.
"The doctor's skill, patient's attitude & God's will". Powerful prayers have been lifted for you, from the many caring FReeper, for these ingredients. I actually felt the presence of God throughout, and was not afraid. I didn't care too much about them shaving my head, but when I heard about the saw, I just blocked it all out and turned it over to our awesome God. I was back to work in 2 weeks.
Different afflictions but the same God. Keep the faith and pray for Him not to abandon the work of His hands. Ct scans don't hurt, just lay very still. Keep us posted.

Thank you for the words of encouragement.

First, I'm very happy that your brain surgery was a success.

As for your suggestion to see my glass as half full, that's what I'm working on. I was diagnosed Thursday afternoon and spent the rest of the day Thursday doing research online, which I think was a mistake, because whether it's true or not, what I read was much more discouraging than what my doctor told me.

I've decided that my CT scan results aren't even back yet, so to go back to thinking about what my doctor told me (possibility of surgical removal) than what the internet told me (no hope of removing it at this point, once it's spread to the liver), and praying for a miracle and for God's help in accepting His will, whatever it may be.

My first concern if for what my family may have to go through.

Thanks again.

I'll have to tell you about a dear little old lady that meant to comfort me, just prior to the surgery. She said,
God must really love you, to give you an affliction that gets others to their knees; That's a blessing dearie." At the time I thought she must be "off her rocker". But as it unfolded, she was absolutely right. Two of our adult children became "Born Again Christians". (about 6 months after the surgery.) To God goes the glory. As for your family, there are wonderful support groups to help them cope, and for you too. It's overwhelming for you now, but what choice do we have but to trust God's plan for our lives? The latest Reader's Digest has a great article about Doctor's testimonies of the power of prayer, they experience on a daily basis. I also found hope & understanding in Rick Warren's book, The Purpose Driven Life. Take care.

As someone who has been through a trying time of hospitalization, you are doing the right thing educating yourself about your condition.

My research came too late to help me. The doctors made a mistake and it cost me a year of recovery and then some. With the information I found later, I could have altered the course and things would have been much, much better.

You will need information from your doctor to make sure your search stays focused on the particular condition and situation. Get specific medical terms from him. These help in the search to make sure you are not reading unrelated information.

I found that there were several conditions similar to mine - some very much worse.

As you research, you will find online bulletin boards with people asking questions but rarely getting answers. This will be frustrating. The UCLA medical journals with case history seem to be the most informative. Try those and any other hospital associated with a University.

Also, writing to specific doctors seems to never get a response. However, I will be that here on FR you will (or may have already) received a FReepmail from a doctor that will give you specific advise. I did and it was very, very helpful (I love FR).

As for my my doctors, the first ones, they told me to get things in order, as in get my life in order, as in you don't have long. Well, happily they were wrong on that score.

Anyhow, keep up posted. We all care about our FReeper friend and offer our prayers.

FReepRegards,
BJN
