Gamers are not going to run OSX with no games, and game developers are not going to develop for OSX if people can boot Macs to Windows.

Apple - When you're through playing games.

Check out the newsstands. Games are what drives computer performance.

I have no quarrel with that statement. Apple users (like myself) are predominantly interested in graphics, animation, and video creation and editing, however, and much of Apple's innovation has been in those performance areas.

Have Rush and Gore do a commercial. "The one thing both parties agree on is that intellectual property has value."

"I-Tunes now supports . . ."

Apple has already included little warnings in the obvious places in the code of it's OS to remind hackers that they should not be trying to get it to run on a standard PC --- which seems to say that they know it IS possible to make it run.

Everyone knows it's possible.

So either THEY do it and sell it, or it's hacked and everyone who wants it runs it under the table.

With limited hardware support and the need to constantly re-patch after every OS update, very few people are going to use OS X on generic PCs for real work. If your time is worth anything you're better off buying a Mac.

"I think Apple's recovery is at least partly due to the free promotion they get from Rush."

partly... small partly ... VERY small partly

IPod ... HUGE reason for their survival.

The problem is with software development. Why go to the expense of dual development if you can switch to Windows while running a Mac?

Because the vast majority of users won't spring for an extra copy of Windows and figure out dual boot. Dual boot is still mostly a hacker thing.

If Jobs were smart...

Steve Jobs is smart. He didn't get to where he is by accident. ;-)

One of Apple's little secrets is that they take video cards developed for the gaming market and write drivers suited for content creation. Gamers want speed, and video editors want accuracy.

The money for hardware development comes from gamers.

I haven't listened to today's Rush podcast yet so forgive me if the question I am about to ask has been answered. I don't have an iPod and I don't want one. I use my Dell Axim X51v PDA as my main mobile music player. That said, I rely on the application that Rush has provided to 24/7 members to deliver the three mp3 files to my desktop. Will that continue after Monday? I don't want anything to do with iTunes. I like the way I currently get my Rush mp3 files.

What color is the sky on your planet? If you took a poll of the political leanings of Mac owners, the numbers wouldn't be tipping ot the right anytime soon.

Exactly what research is your theory based on? Proof? This canard has been around for a long time, probably because in the past a lot of school teachers and artists did use Macs... but they are a very small minority of Mac users.

I guess my proof would be experience.

I will leave it as I greatly disagree with with your assessment of Rusty's infuence on Apple. I believe the iPod/iTunes had about 99.9999% to Rusty's 0.0001% affect on Apple's recovery.

"Once the OS gets running well on Intel PC's Apple will get out of the hardware business."

You are another one of the FReeping economics geniuses around here. Read the financial statements and tell me where the stock goes when they make this announcement.

http://www.apple.com/investor/

Read the most recent Q. Then give me you revenue multiple!! LOL.

The FReeping ignorance of the economy, markets and stocks on FReep is truely outstanding. It is more than just a reflection of the educational system. When it comes to economics people around here talk out of their hat when they are sitting on it.

"So either THEY do it and sell it, or it's hacked and everyone who wants it runs it under the table.'

You are also technically ignorant. There is more to a computer than the instruction set.

I run Windows programs on my G4 Mac now - with MSFT's blessing. Its a bit slow but it works and with Intel Macs it will be the same technology but with a native (vs emulation) instruction set.
