Well those of us who oppose the deal have been called hysterical but my my the hysteria in this thread is quite amazing.
You'd think it was the end of the world and the Antichrist won...LOL
Trust me UAE will not kick the US out of their ports. And even if they did good riddance! We could do just fine without them contrary to the teeth gnashers and hand wringers with their emotional hysterics ;)

"You'd think it was the end of the world and the Antichrist won...LOL Keep laughing, hawkiye. This thing isn't over.

I would have no problem with a guest worker program if everyone played by the rules. But the way government is run in today's world we get a wink and a slap and its business as normal and then American citizens can not compete with people making less than min wage, those that are getting free food free housing free schooling free transportation. Let's make the illegal have a stake in this country.

This thing isn't over.Actually, it is. America strongarmed a concession out of your beloved UAE masters. That you do not like it does not change it. Nobody can breathe life back into the old deal. Divestiture is going to happen, with no change to the current status quo.

Trust me UAE will not kick the US out of their ports. And even if they did good riddance! Good grief! Friendly deepwater ports aren't exactly a dime a dozen in that part of the world.

The ports deal paradox: Give the UAE a break! BY MATEIN KHALID
IT IS surely a paradox that the United States, the champion of free markets and the globalist ethos, snubs a takeover deal linked to the UAE, its staunchest ally in the Middle East and a state whose very social DNA suffuses its openness to foreign business, people and, above all, ideas. If any city defines globalisation in the bigoted, paranoid post-9/11 world, where even religion and culture are existential weapons of war in the latest East-West schism, it is Dubai. Dubai is home to DP World and 160 nationalities, it is the Arabian Monaco, Geneva and Hong Kong (pre-97 to be sure) , a symbol of laissez faire capitalism steeped in its historical affection for Britain and America, an emirate unlike any other on earth. Yet, it is the same Dubai and the UAE that is now being slammed by wolf packs of powerful Arab bashers and assorted Islamophobes all piously wrapped up in the Stars and Stripes, howling Armageddon in the American media and Congress.
This one really heats up after that.

"Actually, it is. America strongarmed a concession out of your beloved UAE masters." As usual, I don't know what you are talking about. And clearly you don't either.
As much as you wish it. You haven't heard the end of this issue.

Let's make the illegal have a stake in this country.Total agreement from me. If people are willing to pay a coyote $2k, we should be able to create a legal means and let the marketplace price it. My concern is that those who are on a waiting list and doing it legally should be shown preference or be rewarded for doing it right. Equitable treatment is important. Likewise, those that illegally crossed should be penalized. Economically. I do not want to build additional holding facilities and hire government guards.

Divestiture is going to happen, with no change to the current status quo. When the next mushroom cloud arises over one of these ports managed by a US firm, it will breath new life into the issue.

First of all, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, dummkopf.
In fact, my family has lived here for three-or four, depending upon which side of the family you look to-generations, so I doubt that I sound like Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies.
Tell me though, if President Bush actually does something to stem the flow of illegal immigration-I know, I know, enough with the comedy-what will happen?
I mean, it seems as if the Rapture is upon us just for this minor snub, so I can't imagine the possible repercussions if he further tempts the gods.
What will ever become of our nation if it actually decides to reassert control of its borders?
Some sort of post-apocalyptic scenario that involves an omnipotent, omniscient tortoise no doubt.

"if America's anti-Bush national security vigilantes are anti-foreign interest in US ports, they ignored the nationality of Britain's P and O and Hong Kong's Hutchinson Whampoa. Hilary Clinton as the new flag waving Joan of Arc of US port security? Oh please! Whose spousal regime allowed Chinese spies to buy US national security secrets for the right price? " There was no ignorance on these issues.

Are these guys righties or lefties? It's Boston so they must be lefties. I thought they were all for killing this deal? Oh well. They've found a way to bash America and they're going to play it to the hilt.
Pulling up the drawbridge
Dubai Ports World threw in the towel yesterday within hours of Republican leaders delivering the news to President Bush that there was no way Congress was going to go along with any deal that put U.S. ports into Arab hands. Yes, it had come down to that - that kind of ugly xenophobia so blind that it cant distinguish friend from foe.
My oh my! What a terrible thing to say.

Actually I did....and that's why I questioned your complete lack of knowledge on the UAE.

Usually the people that throw out baseless charges of "xenophobia" and that equally imbecilic, disgusting neologism, "Islamophobia" are the rainbow flaggers and red fascist scum that attend World Can't Wait and Not In are Name anti-war rallies.
Incorrectly described as "pacifists."
Although apparently these people like to masquerade as conservative Republicans in their spare time.

The left coast lefties have got their agit-prop down on this too. I wonder who they'll bash with this?...
NEWS ANALYSIS Port deal was killed by politics, not sound policy
Privately, many Democrats conceded the xenophobic and anti-Arab strains to their rhetoric made them uncomfortable. But opinion polls that showed the issue hurting Bush's popularity and GOP chances in November prompted them to step up their attacks. "The Democrats just out-Roved Rove,'' said James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute, describing congressional pressure to scuttle the deal as "shameless, absolutely disgraceful behavior.''
