"Essentially, in Islam, the radical interpretation is the correct and orthodox one, which is why "moderate" Muslims are considered heretics and regularly overrun and stomped out by the crazies."

Moderates are to Islam basically what Episcopalians are to Christians.

Not exactly. Other Christians, to my knowledge, are not out stamping out Episcopalians, although it is true that Episcopalianism has less and less to do with Christianity every day. And Christianity, furthermore, does not tell its followers to slaughter anybody who doesn't accept it.

The problem with Islam is that it does, and because orthodox Islam can only be one that is based on a literal reading of its perverted "scriptures" as spoken through the mouth of some mullah who is preferably a descendant of Mohammed, the crazies have the upper hand over other, more lax Muslims who perhaps practice an Islam that is simply a cultural thing. I think the latter are genuinely afraid, and I can't say I blame them.
