Unfortunately, I agree with you. Seems it makes no difference to the Conservatives or the Liberals since Health care just represents government intrusion no matter what end you are on. Another entitlement backed by both sides.

Assuming companies are still turning a profit even with the extra cost, why would they leave?

I must agree, the pols did their homework it appears.

Retailers in high population areas will be unlikely to leave and the pols know it thats why manufacturing is exempt from the ruling because they can move to another state without losing their customer base.

I don't think this is going to get passed.

If this bill passes, you can kiss New York good-bye. I already did, years ago.

If health care is a fundamental right

Which it isn't. If something requires somebody else to give something up for you to have it, it isn't a right.

This bill if passed will drive down premium costs, Medicaid costs, and employee contribution costs, if done properly.

"...shifting the cost of skyrocketing health care in many cases from taxpayers to big businesses."

The taxpayers, or consumers, in this country pay for everything!

The extent of the cash business in the neighborhoods is politley ignored by politicians in Queens and elsewhere. One reason that blacks and whites have trouble starting businesses is that it is harder (although not impossible) for them to operate outside the purview of tax authorities. So Asian stores and restaurants flourish with lower (tax free) margins while everybody else is priced out.

Access to medical facilities, getting medical attention, etc...they may be "fundamental rights," but having someone else pay for your access to medical attention is certainly not.

No kidding. Imagine the employers with just over 100 employees. There's a good chance they'll lay off enough to get under 100 or convert the right number to part-time.
---
Unfortunately there probably will be legal tests in the law that will prohibit this.
What it will do is produce a slew of companies that have 99 employees and forever will turn away business rather than hire one more employee.

"ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The sales clerk at The Gap, the perfume lady at the department store and the Wal-Mart Stores Inc. cashier would all get health insurance from their employers under a bill announced Tuesday, shifting the cost of skyrocketing health care in many cases from taxpayers to big businesses."
More and more people will be at the malls in Jersey! More part timers, and more people forgetting about earning any more than min. wage.......BRILLIANT!

Easy solution. Reduce the number of full time employees (if possible) to 99 and employ the rest as part time workers.

Health insurance is not a right.

State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno showed some initial support for the bill, saying taxpayers shouldn't have to foot the bill for big companies.

For big companies? How about taxpayers footing the bill for the individuals, many of whom have chosen to order their lives in such a way as to not buy health insurance? What do "big companies" have to do with this?
