Hours after the blasts in Varanasi, a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was shot dead in an encounter with the police in Gosaiganj area on the outskirts of the city early on Wednesday morning. Police identified the terrorist as Salar alias Doctor and did not rule out his involvement in Tuesday's blasts at the Sankat Mochan Temple and Cantonment Railway Station in Varanasi, which claimed at least 28 lives. RDX and some detonators were recovered after the encounter with the Special Task Force (STF), police sources said. Sources said that Salar was on his way to Lucknow when he was shot dead by the STF.Salar, a Pakistani, was involved in the conspiracy to carry out a suicide attack at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, which was foiled by the timely tip off by central security agencies. Police were on the lookout for him for quite some time, the sources said adding he was also involved in the Republic Day terrorist attack in Jaipur. New Delhi: Hours after the serial blasts in Varanasi, which killed at least 20, three terrorists, suspected to belong to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, have been shot dead.
Two of them were killed by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police early on Wednesday morning in Delhi's Bawana district.
One of the militants has been identified as Bangladeshi national Mohammad Yazdani. The identity of the other militant has not been established.
Delhi Police also recovered 4 kgs of RDX, four hand-grenades and one AK-56 rifle from the encounter site. The terrorists are suspected to be a part of a larger conspiracy to trigger similar attacks in Delhi.
However, police have not confirmed if those killed were active terrorists or sleeper agents of a bigger terror network. Sleeper agents are couriers for terror outfits and supply arms and ammunition to active terrorists across the country.
Thanks for posting this good news. It is not enough though. The Islamic menace in India must be solved once and for all. Otherwise, such horrible incidents will continue in the future. The solution should involve punishing the fifth-column support structures that support, encourage, and protect such behavior.
LET is Al Qaeda's clone in India.
Glad I saw New Delhi when I did.
Islam is a bloodsoaked deathcult from which there is no happiness.
Good work, India! I think we all have great hopes for the future of India, and I hope these Muslim crazies won't manage to derail it.
If they have a source for RDX, that's pretty worrisome.

Pakistan?
That's not difficult to believe.
I'll bet the Paki Intelligence Services will be busy tracking this down.

Between RDX and plastic explosives, which is the more sophesticated explosive?
IIRC, plastic explosives have been used by Muslim 'militants' before.
C-4 is primarily used by US and NATO forces for general demolition while Semtex was popular for the same purposes in the Warsaw Pact and Soviet forces.
RDX is a newer and more modern compound with a higher explosive yield than either one. It's IIRC primarily used in artillery shells to increase their explosive yield.
Because artillery shells and air dropped bombs are limited in size the military is always looking for stuff that packs more punch for the same weight. You can't make a 105 mm shell any larger after all, so you have to use a more powerful explosive. That's what RDX is, a more powerful explosive.
Squantos is our resident EOD guy. He's forgotten more than I'll ever know so I've pinged him here.
While C-4 and Semtex can be cooked up, it's not really easy. TATP kind of is the home brew explosive of choice. RDX is not readily home made, although it can be done. IMO it's more likely it was procured black market style.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the updates
Explosives hidden inside a pressure cooker(ammonium nitrate) and a timer device were used to trigger a blast in the Sankatmochan temple in Varanasi.
That was very informative.
Thank you.

The thing is, these people were considered "heroes" at one time, but now they are being shown for what they really are, antisocial criminals and thugs.
Thanks for the trouble you've taken to explain that to me!
L
Okay, thanks!
The explosive material used in the twin blasts at the temple city of Varanasi was Ammonium nitrate and not RDX, official sources said here.
