Voter Fraud.......no wait, Bush did it! Freaking Red State dumb arses! Ha ha ha! Ho ho ho!
I have not heard a word about this result on any national news broadcast. If DeLay had been defeated, the report would have led every newscast.
Few things at work with NR.
They, like certain politicians, are angling for a position of influence AFTER Bush is gone.
As result they are seeking to establish their "Independence" from the administration, which usually means trash the admin so that the more "enlightened" set in D.C. will maintain contacts with them after Bush is gone, as well they think this will hold them as a premier "conservative" section to consult since they ditched the "not so conservative" Bush before his presidency was up. Conservatives trashed Reagan for the same reason, now they hold him up as a god. Limbaugh was one of the few that stood beside Reagan while the rest scrambled for a few years after his terms expired. Expect 10-15 years from now conservatives will pretend they never deserted Bush. Or whenever the inevitable snipers can no longer hold back his envied legacy.
Second, they live in the Beltway. People that live in the beltway think like the beltway. They see everything as being about politics. This is why NR seemed to think a "I feel your pain" speech, rather than action, during Katrina was more important. Whereas I see organizing an on the ground response as being more important then a few scripted tears for the cameras.
If beltway folks react negatively, as with the Amramhoff story? NR sees an oppotunity and demands Delay step down. Nevermind the American people didn't care about the trumped up story and activists LIKE Delay. Beltway Folks decided it meant Reps would lose, so despite it not reflecting reality, Delay had to go.
They also enjoy the invites to the big parties in D.C. They enjoy the attention from folks like Al Gore. It makes them feel important. From my persepctive, for folks that complain about Bush being brothers with Clinton? to gush over Al Gore paints them as hypocrites. Especially when Bush's motives are likely far more sincere than those at NR in glee a former Vice spoke to them. A vice that is betraying this country with speeches in Saudi Arabia.
They also envision themselves as the protectors of conservatism. In reality they are the elites. They seem to believe they have the right to dictate what conservatives do. Look at their latest editorial. They denounce the S.D. abortion legislation with haughty condecension, as if the legislators in S.D. give a damn what the people at N.R. think of the politics of the issue. N.R. views it through a detached eye. people in S.D. view the decision as R.v.W. as abominable and are tired of elites telling them wait a little longer...just a little longer..and in effect keeping that decision on the books because no one will agree that NOW the time is right. Change doesn't happen unless someone is willing to give it a push.
In summary the problem with NR is-
1) Post Bush presidency power angling in political and idealogical circles.
2) Elitism
3) The Beltway syndrome that results in principle being second tier in favor of beltway groupthink. Axing Delay is symptomatic of this.
4) Corruption from pretty flatteries sent their way, and invites among the social set. This last no different then what took out O'Connor and Kennedy.
What NR would benefit from is getting away from their usual set that re-inforces everything they do is just and right and mingle (alone) with average conservatives out of the beltway that are NOT contaminated by that Beltway. Would do them a world of good. Conservatives are not immune from the same events that led to the corruption of the Liberal media.
LOL!!!! Well said!
My thought exactly...hahahaaha!!
Thanks!
PTL!
Go Tom go!
Tom's one of the few pols I'd trust with a Testarossa and a sack of diamonds over the weekend...
but... but...
I thought the MSM and all the polls said Texas Republicans hated Delay for getting more Republicans elected to office in Texas !
*rolls eyes*
I said all along that Delay was a hero here in Texas, and would win in a landslide. The MSM gets another one wrong.
