"About as useless as a Women's Studies degree."
And I feel the same about both... it's not wrong to study something you are interested but to elevate it to a major and devote major university resources seems a waste.
In a way though it's a filter as to who not to hire. If somebody shows up with a degree in women's studies that tells me immediately they did not go to school to learn to be productive.
And BTW, I'd feel the same about somebody with a degree in "White people studies."
There is nothing wrong with things like "Women's studies" or even "Queer Studies" (just not at a Catholic institution) as a minor. That's part of the experience of a liberal arts education as opposed to a University. The problem is when wingnuts make these subjects their primary course of studies.
How about "Heterosexual Studies" for a major? Now THAT would be radical!
