PHOENIX Twins Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett is expected to be removed from life support tonight, according to two people with knowledge of Pucketts condition. Puckett suffered a massive stroke Sunday morning at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., and underwent surgery. He has been transferred to St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Family members assembled at the hospital Monday to make the decision on life support. The people with knowledge of Pucketts condition said he was expected to be removed from the life support sometime Monday.
"Tough day," former Twins manager Tom Kelly said today at the Twins' training camp in Fort Myers, Fla., where he's working with the team.
"The Minnesota Twins and major league baseball ask fans to keep Kirby and his family in their thoughts and prayers," the team said in a statement.

Indeed.
He's to turn 45 next Tuesday. He's so young.
A real shame...I feel for them.
And he was to re-marry in June.
It was reported that Kirby had hit 300 pounds at 5' 8"
Well, if you remember, he was a skinny little kid when he first came up and he just kept getting bigger and bigger.

Just saw it on 5, Thanks.
AM......could you add something to the title in re: Kirby Puckett has passed.
Thanks......
That is so sad -- prayers for everyone that knew him. Will always remember his smile and how much he enjoyed playing baseball.
At least he didn't suffer.
I am now left to wonder if the family will be villified for their decision as Michael shiavo was......
I send out my best wishes for a family that faced the toughest of decisions. May KP rest in peace.
I think we will learn, in the days to come, that he was pretty much dead when he came out of surgery. I'm of the mind that he didn't have a stroke and then he was bleeding in his brain. My guess is that he had a brain anuerism (sp) which caused his stroke. Tough to recover from that.
Sorry to hear this. And I'm surprised that they would remove him from life support so soon - stroke Sunday, off Monday? My mother had a massive stroke at the age of 49, was on a respirator for three days, with doctors telling us to be prepared for her death. She made a 99% recovery.
I sure hope the doctors know what they are about here.

We lived in the Twin Cities for both World Series games. Kirby was tremendous.
I just saw on FNC that Kirby had died....he was one of the best!
The answer is no because the family is not split. Further, the person who wants most to pull the plug is not his wife who is living with another man.
If Kirby's parents want the keep him alive and a wife living with another man insisted the plug be pulled, you can bet all hell would break loose.
