Angus Reid Global Scan) Jon Kyl could be re-elected to the United States Senate in Arizona, according to a poll by SurveyUSA released by KNPX-TV. 57 per cent of respondents in the Grand Canyon State would vote for the Republican in a head-to-head contest against Democratic challenger Jim Pederson.
Kyl was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1994, and earned a new six-year term in 2000, defeating three independent candidates with 79 per cent of all cast ballots. Kyl had previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.
Pederson co-founded the commercial development firm The Pederson Group, and acted as the Democratic Partys chairman in Arizona from 2001 to 2005. Support for Pederson stands at 33 per cent.
Kyl is the co-sponsor of a bill that would implement stronger border security measures and would make undocumented migrants leave the United States before becoming eligible for permanent legal status. Kyl discussed the future of the proposal, saying, "If we approach this with goodwill, a minimum of partisanship, constructively, no name-calling and the like, we might have a chance to get something done."
The senatorial election is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Wish I lived in Arizona now. I could vote for this guy and against the media darling McDouche.
I live in Az, and will vote for Kyl. McCain on the otherhand ran un-opposed in 2004, so we are stuck with him for 4 1/2 more years.
from the other end of the continent: the highest compliment to jon kyl is that he is everything john mccain isn't.
Any chance that McCain's stance on illegal immigration will cost him his senate seat when he comes up for reelection next?
But I thought this was the Year of The Donkey. Especially since here in AZ the Rat Governor will win re-election easily. So how is it that Kyl is winning? Good Pubbie candidates will do OK nationally, Neal Boortz notwithstanding.

If their logic was correct and immigration is the only issue, then Kyl should be at -100%.
McCain did not run unopposed. He ran against Democrat Stuart Starkey.
McCain got 77% of the vote. Mr. Starkey got 21%.
This was indeed a seat the DNC had targeted. These results are crushing for them. Without this seat their chance of a 5-6 seat pickup and obtaining the majority fades.
The truth is what it needs to be. People vote for 1) who best represents them and 2) who is a viable, possible winner. The talk of GOP voters abandoning their best interests looks once again to be silly.

Since the facts indicate that your then clause is not true, your if clause therefore is also not true.
Thanks for the vote of support!
OBTW, Kyl/Cornyn calls for an application for guest worker status from the home country, which is a position many of the folks on the border ping list support.
I know, there are some who don't, but that's what differentiates us from Lock-step Liberals.
Good news. Looks like Arizona (my future home?) will have at least one Republican Senator.
I'm hoping he will do the right thing and step down from his senate seat when he runs for the presidency. That way when he gets creamed in the primaries we will be rid of him altogether. Course I realize I'm dreaming because he won't step down from his senate seat before he runs for president.
Wow. It seems like everybody is moving to Arizona.
My bad. You are correct, he was un-opposed in the Republican Primary. Might as well have been un-opposed in the General Election though.
