Fewer Americans Content with War on Terrorism
Angus Reid Global Scan ^ | March 5 2006

Adults in the United States hold mixed views on the progress of the global effort to fight terrorism, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 39 per cent of respondents believe the U.S. and its allies are winning the war on terror, down five points since mid-January.

Conversely, 36 per cent of respondents believe the terrorists are winning the war on terror—up 10 points in six weeks—and 18 per cent believe neither side is ahead.

Al-Qaeda operatives hijacked and crashed four airplanes on Sept. 11, 2001, killing nearly 3,000 people. The war on terrorism was initiated in October 2001 after Afghanistan’s Taliban regime refused to hand over al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi—regarded as the network’s top commander in Iraq—has reportedly carried out several attacks and kidnappings.

Another "US adults" poll, even by Rassmussen.

These days pollsters way oversample Dems.

Also, Bush is the victim of his own success.

People have short memories, and the Dems and MSM keep trying to minimize both the threat and our successes.

A few nukes over NYC or SFO will get their attention.

But the bigger question is; "Why is Rasmussen polling the Doofus brigade?"

>>>"People have short memories, and the Dems and MSM keep trying to minimize both the threat and our successes"<<<

Which makes it so much more important to defeat the Terrorists at our Ballot box as well as in their homelands. (and to minimalism the Dinosaur Press as well)

I wouldn't go so far to say we are losing the "war on terror", but I wouldn't say we are winning it, either.

I think my point is this: a lot of us (myself included) are getting sick of this "war on terror" and war in Iraq ... and then have President Bush threaten us with his "veto pen" (does he even know what a "veto pen" is?!) if we just don't go along without complaining about his UAE sucking-up-to-Muslims ports deal.

President Bush is starting to look desperate ... spending his "political capitol" (like he has any left) and that he's "milking" the WOT and the war in Iraq.

Bash away. No flame suit required.

This isn't a poll about Bush or Dems or Republicans. This is just a poll asking how Americans think the country is doing against terrorism.

I think we are kicking ass and killing terrorist in Iraq. I can't see why people would not think this is not necessary. I love W and would kiss his butt if he asked.

Exactly right - Without question -

"Welcome to Angus Reid Consultants – a Vancouver-based partnership dedicated to understanding public opinion and consumer attitudes in North America and around the world. "

Yeah, the Canadians know exactly what's going on in the war against terrorism.

I think we should just let the Islamofascists nuke NYC and DC instead of fighting back. It would be our fault and George Bush's and Halliburton's of course.

The "liberals", the Canadians, the Muslims and Islamofascists, the Europeans and the rest of the world can kiss my butt if they don't like me for trying to stay free and alive and prosperous and not starving to death.

Zero terror attacks on US soil since 9/11. Yeah, the war on terror is really going lousy... for terrorists and liberals.

al-Qaeda has been forced to planned scaled down goals of late. Without a clear unfettered safehaven they only have demonstrated the ability to plan and conduct small and medium sized attacks in the Middle East and Europe.

The only spectacular attack that has been planned and got somewhere close to execution since 911 was Zarqawi's planned chemical strike on Amman.

al Qeade can't plan large scale attacks....because they are under constant pressure. They are constantly on the run.

Large scale attacks take time......something they don't have the luxury off since we have taken the fight to them.

Additionally in the planning of large scale attacks...the back-channeling of such....can very well lead to an HVT....These HVT's on the run today don't feel secure enough to take such risks.

We are winning by every objective standard.

screw a stinking poll. for a subject of this nature this poll is like asking 4th graders 'how is the school's war against 4th grade math ignorance going?' it is painful, we don't enjoy it, and it isn't over in 2 weeks. so now ask us if we like it? bunch of dorfs

The way to win wars is to kill the enemy. Bush Administration has to score kills and report them accordingly.

This is why the muzzies need to get off their butts and fly some more planes into buildings and kill more "americans." We become very impatient (are we there yet?) and bored even when there is an important job to be done and we need to be reminded at times that freedom isn't free and that there are a lot of maggots in this world who don't like us and want us dead.

You've got Howard Dean's talking points down real good.

What this country needs is a law making it illegal for the country to participate in "unpopular" wars (Like the current war against Al Qaeda). As a former GI, I know I would have been very disappointed had I been killed in an "unpopular" war. The war must be "popular" or forgedaboutit.
