Kirby is such a nice guy. In his playing days, my nephews went to see a ballgame that featured their two favorite players, Kirby Puckett and Rickey Henderson. They went to the game early in hopes of getting their autographs. Rickey was rude and avoided everyone. Kirby greeted the fans, signed autographs and chatted a bit. My prayers are with him and his family.

A hemorrhagic stroke at 44 is unusual.

yeah....

it's pretty much what retired him. He started losing sight in his left eye (it might be his right but I think it's his left) and he smartly said that's that.....

Having his face caved-in by a Dennis Martinez beanball had a bit to do with his retirement, also.

maybe the beanball was the onset of the eye problems, but the Diabetes and the eyesight problems sealed the deal for him.

I'm finding myself making dumb statements like, "he's too young," or "that doesn't seem fair," when all along I know it is just the same as it was when I wasn't paying attention.

You can't die in your sleep if you stay on your feet.

LOL

don't worry about it.

I'd forgotten how long he's been retired.....here I was thinking it was 1998 or so, but it was 1995....

Agreed. Too bad because he had quite a few good years of baseball left.

Does anyone remember a few years back that some woman sued him for sexual assault in a bar. I think the charges were ultimately dismissed and the woman was discovered to be a scam artist. If anyone has any clarification or a better recollection of it than I do, please post.

He was accused of groping her in a restaurant, but was eventually acquitted of the charges.
