I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.
I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.

Brokeback instantly became an American cinematic classic. Crash most definitely is not.
Thanks for the warning. McMurtry has/HAD such a beautiful way to tell a story. I would have assumed "Streets of Laredo" was equally beautifully told. After "Brokeback" though, McMurtry has a long way to go for me to be interested in his writings.
Well, it's the first time a Taiwanese director won something of this caliber. Maybe the next time it'll be for an apolitical film.

I agree and I never said it was a bad thing, just pointed it out because he seemed to defend the movie quite a bit.
I moved to Charlotte after Nashville, which is a very similar city- big and growing rapidly but still with a manageable feel. I'm now living in Atlanta. Talk about a boomtown. Atlanta's fantastic, but you don't want Nashville to ever get this big!
Oh...I LIKED him, a lot...because he kept gigging the stars and the whole production...but, I think THEY didn't like being made fun of.

Atlanta and Charlotte have crime issues that thankfully Nashville does not have in the same proportion.
