The party in power usually loses a few seats in off year elections. The goal is to limit that loss to insignificance, or indeed gain as the OP suggests.
This doesn't happen from enthusiasm. It happens with money and volunteer efforts. There are threads on FR showing where the vulnerable districts are. Send money and volunteer your time to the GOP candidate in those districts.
Don't watch it happen. Make it happen.
