We're all entitled to our fantasies. That's not mine.
Ditto!
The problem I see is that as the Rats move even further to the left, they are dragging the GOP leftward with them.
Newt is the only one electable so far that I have seen that has his head on straight.. He could win if he had the proper support.
Fantasy...funny! So who's your pick for your 2008 presidential candidate?
Now if we can just get the testicularly challenged among us to grow a pair....
Bush isn't running. People are going to be voting in local races and for their congress-critters. Congress-critters have a 98% re-election rate. Nothing that you mentioned is a show-stopper in a congressional race, since it wasn't the congress that did it.
In other words, not enough people care for any of it to make a difference.
While I disagree with PD on us picking up 5 seats in the Senate, I seriously doubt that we are going to lose seats in either house. Republicans will still vote Republican, Democrats will still vote Democrat, and Independants will still vote with their wallet. Their wallets are more full now than they were two years ago. QED.
Outstanding! I am so sick and tired of whiners on here and their negative comments without having any facts, that I could scream. If they are Republican, they sure have short memories about what it is like to be in the minority and if they are conservative then they have come to the Party late and don't have a clue what it takes to win. My way or no way is not how we win elections.
It makes it even more disgusting because I happen to live in a state with two conservative Republican Senators -- Inhofe and Coburn and I have to read crap from people in States with liberal Senators. My guess is that they have worked very few campaigns if any or they wouldn't be so quick to go negative. If they had worked a campaign like we just did for Dr. Coburn that was nasty as could be by the RATs, they wouldn't be threatening to stay home!
IMO, these negative folks will be shocked at the outcome in Nov 2006 and agree with your analysis.
We need somebody like Bush for the WOT and for judges. We need somebody like Pence when it comes to cutting spending.
That said, a president like Pence will get nowhere on spending with the congress the way it is.
That's why the '06 elections are important and it is the '06 elections that this thread is about.
Political perfectionists are those who toss over progress, for idealistic purity. For instance, the statement I will not support President Bush or one more member of the GOP until they build a wall around the country and kick out every illegal in the matter of two weeks. (You can substitute any single issue we care about there.)
A Political pragmatist on the other hand (defined by the second meaning, not explained by the first in your posted definition) says look, the number one priority right now is to win the WOT, and more specifically, win the battles we are currently engaged in...Iraq and Afghanistan, and moving towards Iran. Budget, borders, education, governmental shrinkage, SS and a myriad other issues are important, but must be prioritized within a given set of facts on the ground. Put the most time, energy and resources into the most pressing issue...make progress on all others that will not compromise the first.
Unfortunately, what has happened around here is, those of us who may disagree with the President or Congress on many things, but remain focused and understanding of the need to prioritize and gasp, compromise, are deemed Bushbots.
Anyone who understands there is more than one way to win a war, and are able to pull back and see a bigger picture...are deemed Bushbots (or the heavily loaded moniker neocon, which frankly is often used interchangeably with Jewish.)
Anyone who does not run around yelling fire, fire we're all doomed, but instead is willing to patiently sit back and wait for more information, is a Bushbot.
Anyone who says, I disagree on this, but I usually agree...is a Bushbot.
Anyone who admires the President personally, and thinks he is smarter than he sometimes sounds...is a Bushbot.
Anyone who thinks he made the right decision on Spector, because in the end we got Roberts and Alito...is a Bushbot.
And the list goes on and on. It's not about questioning some decisions the President makes..it's about staying home because progress just isn't good enough.
The point is, I have NEVER met a single "Bushbot" that didn't disagree with the President on something. But there are probably thirty or forty very active posters that agree with the President on NOTHING. Some of these people are my friends and have excellent things to say. But when it comes to politics, they are perfectionists and as PD says..."It amazes me that when Conservatism is one vote away from winning the 40 year battle over Roe-v-Wade, some you would risk that opportunity with a Democrat-controlled Congress because you dont want some Mexican citizen to have the legal right to pick your Strawberries."
That is what I mean by pragmatist. To stand back and really, really understand the alternatives. It may not fit your definition...but I think I truly understood what Medved was talking about. Because he pointed out that the left has their own version...and it is no more effective there.
2006 short term planning, 2008 long term planning..
The democrats are crazy but their not stupid.. (some of them)..
[ Now, who said this? - "we must achieve communism by non communist means?" ]
Sounds very familar.. dunno, can't remember.. Who Ted Kennedy? Gorbi?..
Just wondering - do you buy your Kool-Aid concentrated, or in powder form?
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"... it is the '06 elections that this thread is about."
Pukin Dog was very clear about this.
The only one falling on their sword will be her Heinous - right after the Barrett Report is released and the world finds out the truth about her and her nitwit husband.
Good stuff Dog. There are some other reasons to be optimistic about Nov.
Republicans have elected majorities in both houses of Congress every year since 1994. We now have elected and re-elected Dubya and gained majorities of state governors, majority control of a majority of state legislatures, and a majority of state legislators. Politically that means we have a bigger farm team.
In 06 the rats have more seats up for re-election than we do. Very few seats in the House are in play. The Presidents approval rating means nothing unless the 06 elections are nationalized, and even then I think the President wins on National Defense.
I think the 06 election will be repeat of most elections. 98% of incumbents are returned to office, but it's possible we could pick up some seats in the Senate. The rats have more seats up for re-election then we do.
The biggest factor in the 06 elections will be issues and the rats lose on those too. We put 2 conservatives on the SCOTUS without much trouble. It is already paying dividends. We are in the middle of a great economy that is getting better with every GDP and unemployment report.
The rats and the old media are shooting their guns before before the target is sighted. They're making a lot of noise but they ain't hitting anything, and it's gonna cost them.
The rats went after wiretapping terrorists and failed. The rats went after Alito and failed. The rats went after the Patriot act and failed. They have no power and the rat base is not happy with them for what they think is laying down without a fight.
The rats are now going after Dubya on spending. Even some conservative Republican Congressmen are attacking Dubya for signing the budgets they voted for. We are going to get spending cuts. I don't know how Dubya got himself into a situation where the rats are demanding spending cuts, but its kind of like when he got them to demand a vote to authorize the war in Iraq before the 02 elections, and the time Frist had them vote for an immediate retreat from Iraq.
I'm also looking forward to the execution of Saddam Hussein. I hope it is televised.
Could not agree more.
THANKS . . . WE NEEDED THAT!!!
I agree and I never thought for a minute that we would lose the house or the senate. Thanks for the rant.
Even here is CA. the tide is changing, and it's not looking good for the liberals.
You're worse than Juan Williams .. you're doing smack-down talk with a FORMER F-14 PILOT - USN Retired - which does make you an idiot.
Pukin Dog - you are the MAN! Great rant! I agree with you 100% - and the deal with Meiers - wow! I was always wondering if that was a ruse .. glad to know my instincts were correct.
