As a comedy show, with the realization that it is, he's fine. But as a "source for news," that's a laugh. He's so utterly one-dimensional in his viewpoints and takes that it's laughable that any reasoning person would consider that any sort of credible news program. Must be for the masses that have the 24/7 need to have some external source amuse them.

Hmmm.... Change the focus of the article and that sounds like a critique of another media pundit that I know:

I thought the interview with Franklin was funny also. And I LOVE "The Word".

Well said, suggesting we all be proactive toward what we take in as far as informative and entertainment media. That's true democracy.

Umm, why is this the first year we're not seeing an official Academy Awards thread? Did "Brokeback Mountain" break our backs or what? I like to think that the entire work effort of legions of dedicated professionals (many of whom are necessarily quietly conservative) outranks the influence of one film.

Allow me to play stupid. More specifically, you're saying what now...?

That Rush, like Stewart, is an entertainer first and a newsman second.

That's what I thought you meant.

Rush is a lot more factually oriented and their shows are worlds apart. Stewart takes one item entirely out of context, and then builds a joke around it.

Rush discusses things fairly comprehensively and provides many examples, yet in a humorous fashion often. There's a big difference.

Yeah, I understand that. And I should have been more clear about what I meant in the original post. When I look back at it it was a bit unfair.

I'm thinking maybe a mod ZOTted it. Generally such events get live threads.

I tuned out. Saw the Academy make gay jokes about Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, and other "gay xowboys of old" in a video montage. Not for me.

Did I mention that the Acadmey honored Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl a few years back?

There is such a huge difference between society's expectations of notable personalities then compared to now. It is unfortunate that this generation will lack the role models that Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable provided. Even Elvis Presley served because he considered it an obligation to the country who's freedoms enabled his success.

Now the Academy seems to be exerting active pressure to avoid patriotism and play up "getting along" above all other priorities.

Regardless, I always tune into the Academy Awards for the vignettes showing the unique scenes brilliant actors (and supporting crew) have brought us over time. While the pro-gay faction thinks it may have hijacked this American institution (year 78) I believe the ratings will tell the sorry truth.

It's telling that politics has affected art due to the consumers detecting agendas being shoved down their collective throat. Hollywood needs to get off its high-horse and realize that its comforatable lifestyle is directly attributable to the contributions of "fly-over America". That America sees the insult and reciprocates with diminished box office revenue. Hence their rejection of the gay cowboy movie that was well recieved on the corrupted coasts. That Michael Caine pro-abortion flick had much to do with this.

Leftists: Self-loathing, humorless, intolerant, self-righteous, whiny, and annoying. Oh yeah, and they usually smell bad, too.

The left is irrational and neurotic, like the entire cast of Seinfeld and various Woody Allen movies. And there's no government program that can reverse that trend. Cool!

I just think he channels his own internal demons toward a tangible liberal mudbunny called the Republican party.

You hit the nail squarely on the head. In fact, I think all of the real hard core libs do this. Lots of 'daddy issues' I think, and problems with authority (represented by white male Repubs). I could go on a rant, but I wont.

I think the show was better with Kilborn, but he's not part of the Blue State Crew, so the media didn't like promoting him. He took a $#!# job on that late night show, though, and I have no idea why. I hope he comes back. I can't stand Stewart, who is so unfunny it's painful to watch, as is Colbert--how that show got spun off is beyond me.

Give me reruns of South Park or Drawn Together any day.

I've seen Stewart a couple of times. He can occasionally be funny, but too often he goes for the cheap shot joke instead of something insightful. What is more alarming is how many liberal utilize a comedy show for their "news" source. If one only obtains their news as part of a joke then their political views are a joke. Guess that's why they are democrats.
