I am afraid William F Buckley has spent two many years in two many Pubs, and the brain cells can handle drink in moderation,but he was moderately drinking for the equivalent of three people. He has broken with Conservatives on a few issues, one important one being marijuana use and legalization. I remember a long time ago when I could understand what he was saying even with his upper crust Cambridge type accent. I used to respect him,but in a way he has gone downhill like Goldwater did age and lifestyle take their toll on your thinking and reasoning ability. It is really sad that he even gave up his Boat because of age. He really needs to give up Opinion/Editorials and get back to the Boat, he is less dangerous skippering his Boat that trying to weave his way through Opinion Pieces that make him look old and foolishly pessimistic. Sad to say it, but he has long since "jumped the shark".
So naturally, Timmy waives him around as an example of how even conservatives have turned against the war.
WFB was lucid and on point during the Cold War and a great defender of democracy and capitalism vs. communism.
But once the Berlin Wall fell, he lost his focus.
