I have no clue about the dates. I cheated by doing a Google to get the quotes :)

Couldn't agree more. I just heard a snippet on the radio that some Republican were not happy. I would never judge conservatives or Republicans based on Pat, believe me. I have no problem exporting capitalism to India.

Oh, I see...................:-(
I bet you that last quote is rather old. Ergo, it has been completely disproved.

Nice to read some rare gratitude.
Thank you, India, for your appreciation.
Will we ever see this re-printed in the "drive-by" LSM???

The tagline actually came about because of a conversation I was having with my husband about how other countries view us. I actually asked that question. He laughed. I decided I liked it as a tagline.
I mentioned it to a distant Aussie cousin of mine. He said Americans cannot claim arrogance all for ourselves. He said it applies to the Aussies, the Germans, and the French, as well.

"I heard that many Republicans don't like Bush's deal with India."
One of the big benefits of helping to push India's nuclear power is they won't be as much on the "demand" side of oil or coal power. You know how much Republicans like those SUV's and increased greenhouse gases (just to piss the liberals off). ;-)

I think the point of it is what America is currently facing. Too many people have their snouts in the government trough. Government was never meant to dole out favours to this and that special interest group but serve the American people as a whole. So I think the point of the quote is once every American is a special interest group and everyone is on the take, government just gets too large to finance.

Technically you are correct. Congress has been subject to bribes for well over a century now and the US still stands. So Tocqueville was a little too acopalytpic here.

I love pissing off liberals too. Although I am not a big SUV fan. :)

Then the point STILL is far off the mark and by 70+ years.
