Brady Gun Control Campaign All Wet, Say Nation's Top Cops

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

The very foundations of the gun control movement were rocked today by the results of a survey taken by the National Association of Chiefs of Police (NACOP). In a nutshell, the survey shows that the nation's top law enforcement officers believe that average citizens can be trusted to responsibly own firearms; that criminals ignore gun control laws; and that concealed carry laws reduce crime.

These revelations come as a stark contrast to gun control movement propaganda that asserts that police officials feel that our streets would be safer if law-abiding citizens were disarmed.

Specifically, the survey revealed that 93 percent of chiefs and sheriffs felt that citizens should be able to purchase firearms for sport and self defense; 73 percent opposed so-called "one gun a month" laws; 96 percent believed that criminals ignore gun control laws and; 63 percent supported laws that allow citizens to carry defensive firearms as a means to control crime.

"These survey results are important and timely for the law- abiding Illinois firearm owner," said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "The General Assembly is currently considering HB2414 which would ban most of the guns owned by law-abiding citizens in Illinois. The legislature is also considering legislation that would shut down most of the lawful gun shops in the state. The supposed justification for these two bills is that they would result in a safer society. Well, based on the chiefs' survey, it would appear that the gun control movement is standing all alone on that assertion."

"I hope that the Illinois General Assembly is paying close attention to what our top cops have to say," continued Pearson. "It's time for the legislature to stop trying to find ways to harass the law-abiding gun owner and start finding ways to keep criminals in jail and off our streets.

---

Since 1903, the ISRA has been the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership.

WOW! Great News!

It would be fun to watch the media try to spin this one their way---but I suspect their first response will be to ignore it completely in every way, shape, and form. However, it will be covered by the Wall Street Journal and I imagine some senators and congressmen will also talk about it---so perhaps the MSM will really will have to respond. That will be quite enjoyable to see. No doubt they will pull out a bunch of their Liberal surveys to the contrary and then try to say that the police chiefs themselves don't actually know what they think.

This is great news. For years, many Police Organizations supported these un-Constitutional laws.

We all know that gun control is crap. The point is, as long as we are armed, we are somewhat free. The politicos know this. When we are un-armed, then freedom dies. GUN CONTROL= SLAVERY.

This says a lot.

We all know about the 'polls' done by the dinosaur MSM propagandists.

I've nearly come to belive that most LEO's were the 'disarm the average Joe' types (from a LOT of stuff I've read right here), but 'anecdotally' the ones I've spoken with person-to-person did not believe that way at all, hence making me question my sources once again.

Be ever vigilant is the only thing that makes sense in trying to separate wheat from chaff in the information age.

Perhaps it is time to revisit the constitutionality of Brady laws with respect to the 2nd Amendment (as SD is attempting with abortion.)

Me too. I decided to get a CCW from my home state and was loathing the trip to the Sherrif's office to do the fingerprinting because of my assumptions. They had me in and out in under 15 minutes and called me by my first name. A very pleasant surprise indeed.

96 percent believed that criminals ignore gun control laws

So 4% of chiefs/sheriffs think that criminals actually obey gun control laws? lol....criminals ignore other laws, but gun control laws they obey? Numbskulls.

Anyway, outstanding news.

I think most Police Officers are gun advocates themselves, only a few think they should eb the only ones allowed to own guns.

Look around, many departments have rules saying the officer must carry off duty, and most even take their weapons on vacation with them.

Sweet. Sounds kinda' like my neck of the woods. Yeah, I've had a few bad experiences with the 'buzz-cut wannabees' but 'round here I do believe that the LEO's know what this country is supposed to be about and their proper role in said country.

Virtually every LEO that I've had the opportunity to converse with supports responsible citizens bearing arms, and especially those who go through the hoops to carry concealed.

They know that we're watching their collective sixes.
