Iowa Senator Tom Harkin has called for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, saying it's the only solution after recent religious violence in that nation.
Harkin's comments place him among the first members of Congress to publicly state that the war in Iraq has become a fight between Muslim factions.
The criticism follows a CBS poll last week that showed 65 percent of respondents disapproved of President Bush's handling of the war, his worst marks since the war started three years ago.
A White House spokesman says retreat before victory would be reckless.

God help us if the Dims take over and this moron gets even more power.
Tom Harkin has been the friend of America's enemies for the last 40 years.
He gave direct aid and comfort to North Vietnamese communists and every other communist regime thereafter.
So this should surprise no one.
By the way...in the lead up to the Iraq war, we had a support the troops rally on the steps of the Capitol in Des Moines. Thousands of patriotic Iowans showed up, but NONE of the Dem leadership did...not the Governor, and certainly not Tom Harkin...
No need. He hasn't had anything but a PO box in Iowa for many years...
The people of Iowa need to be called on the carpet for continually electing this sc*mbag.
Harkin needs to STFU and just keep his Senate seat warm until it's time for a permanent dirt nap.
That loser has absolutely no balls, no spine, and not a shred of common sense.
I remember so well the day that God decided that Paul Wellstone should keep his promise not to seek another term, and manifested that with an unexpected plane crash, and Harkin is crying and sobbing like a baby, he made Voinovich of Ohio look like freakin John Wayne, and Mrs. Harkin is murmuring into his ear loud enough for the microphones, "you can do it, Paul would want you to, blah-blah-blah" and Harkin pulls himself together long enough to blubber into the cameras about the tragedy (of course in his mind, the 'tragedy' was losing his closest Commie pal), it wasn't a parade, it was a damn pageant.
If Harkin is the best that Iowa can do, then I see another state in the Lower 48 that we might want to consider trading to Canada for say, Alberta?
LOL--Gabler never ceases to amaze me how far he will skew any story to end up President Bush's fault...
Just like the last story about the "Citizen of the World" award...the story had NO Bush connection...but, he had to force one at the end...which in essence had him pick Kofi Annen over President Bush and John Bolton...
He should offer to fly them out... afterall, he flew in Vietnam!
I don't think we can stop the occupation yet. But I wonder why we are in this position almost 3 years after the war.
The war went well. The occupation is a cluster****.
I really make an effort to be respectful to most of the Democrats, but Harkin makes it impossible. The man is a bald faced liar and political hack.
I think he's going down in '08.
The trick to beating him is to nominate a real conservative.
Chuck Grassley has held the other seat forever...repeatedly garnering over 70% of the vote.
Commie Tommy has been holding on by the skin of his teeth, barely winning with 50% of the electorate.
Neal is interesting to watch, for no other reason than he believes what he's saying and he believes he is in the main stream of thinking and opinions. He argues against it, but he's as far left as anything in the NY Times, Air America or DU. He's radical while envisioning himself as calm and reasoned.
The word delusional comes to mind every time I watch him. LOL
You're right. Harkin is a real Schumer.
No offense, but don't buy into the occupation of Iraq as going badly. It's media spin and the constant refrain by the left that makes some people question it all, but the complaints are all based on lies and distortions. Don't buy the lie.
General Tommy Franks wrote the anticipation was to be in Iraq for five plus years, continue a presense for ten to twenty years. It all hinges on how quickly the Iraqis are able to step in and resolve their security problems, as well as the political side of getting their constitution and representation of the people into a democracy.
I didn't know that about Harkin, so I looked at his website:

Says he flew for the Navy from 62 to 67 but not the type of aircraft. Do you know?
I like that.
I'd rather be a chicken hawk , than a chicken shit.
LOL>...I almost posted the same sentiment...glad you weren't too chicken to do it....LOL
Harkin makes the chicken hawk claim out of defense over how badly Democrats are on national security issues and foreign affairs. Harkin's a wimp and anti-military. He may have flown an airplane but today's he's hiding behind Hillary's skirts.
It isn't going well. We are still taking battle casualties almost 3 years after the war. After WWII we occupied Germany, Italy and Japan and had 6 battle deaths for the whole year of 1946 in all theaters.
Something is screwed up
U-bet.
