THREE years may sound like a relatively light sentence for a man who was at one point facing the death penalty, but Gary Glitters time in Vietnamese custody will be extremely tough.
Conditions are terrible, Brad Adams, Asia director of Human Rights Watch, said. Creature comforts are nonexistent, prisoners sleep on mats on concrete floors, food is minimal and there are widespread lice.
There is also regular abuse, although I dont expect Glitter to be abused because it would be too hard to cover it up. He is luckier than his cellmates in that respect.
He may be able to use bribes to get food and medical supplies into the jail, which could help him with the other prisoners, but sharing one of the larger cells with the wrong people can certainly be unpleasant.
Although he could be released before the end of the year, Glitters legal problems are unlikely to end there. While the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that it is up to the country issuing the deportation to decide where he goes, any return to Britain will be closely monitored by the authorities here.
The British Embassy in Vietnam, which has provided consular assistance to Glitter, said: UK nationals who travel abroad with the explicit intent to abuse children will remain the focus of UK law enforcement activity.
I hope this aging "rock star", becomes a well loved "girlyman" in prison......
Poetic justice....

Paging Bianca!
The sick sob wasn't too concerned about the kids he'd be raping so I am not going to even wish him a lice free cell.
The girls were 10 and 11. Gary Glitter says he was teaching them English in his home and the 11 year old slept in his bedroom because she was afraid of ghosts. Sounds all very Micheal Jackson.
Maybe he'd be the 1st Liberal to TRULY understand the "Hanoi Hilton" odreal that US Air Force/ Navy & Marines airmen suffered so brutally unspeakable through.
I remember reading that Abagnale book(Catch me If you Can)
When he got caught and convicted at first he had it made in a Swiss pen.Later transfered to France and stripped and thrown in a dark unlit dungeon for I think 8 Months, almost died in it.
That`s what Glitter oughta get 3 yrs in an unlit dungeon, solitary confinement,Bread & water twice a day.
Hopefully they will make him listen to "Hanoi Jane" Fonda's rant over and over and over. Cruel and unusual punishment is the norm in Vietnam.
Maybe he should be demanding that all his "international human rights" buddies petition for him to be transferred to Guanatanamo!! Wouldn't that be a riot, a Euro-freak coming to recognize that Guantanamo would be paradise compared to what he's going through.......
Is it for certain the guy is guilty?
McCain experienced it, but apparently he doesn't get it yet...
He makes me angry siding with liberals like Kennedy and McCain. When I hear McCain wants to run for President, it makes me cringe. If he runs, I'm going third party...
dint they find his dna where it shouldnt have been?
I guess I have been under a rock. This is the first I have heard of Mr. Glitter.
I'm convinced.... This jerk had quite a history.. Go here and see:
