What a great true story. There's a book written about Voytek,
Soldier Bear, by Geoffrey Morgan. It's out of print now, and not cheap to buy, unfortunately.

Ping to a wonderful heartwarming story about a big brown bear who "served" with our Polish allies, 22nd Polish Artillery Command in WWII.

Kind of glosses over the story of Stalin invading Poland and throwing hundred of thousands of Poles into the gulag, doesn’t it?
