From an older article dated Feb.12,2006:

" Backed by Moktada al-Sadr, Iraqi Prime Minister Retains Post

In the northern oil city of Kirkuk, gunmen assassinated Khalid Abdul Hussein Muhammad, a doctor at Haweeja General Hospital, police officials said. Dr. Muhammad's brother, Majid Hussein Muhammad, said he had refused to treat insurgents who were injured in confrontations with American forces.

On the net November 2004:

"The recipe for civil war

And Kirkuk is even worse Az-Zaman, a London-based Arabic-language newspaper, recently detailed what’s happening in Kirkuk. Haweeja is the main Arab neighborhood in Kirkuk. More than 100 Haweeja tribal leaders and clerics have declared it off-limits to the Americans, and are taking all matters - from security to rebuilding - in their own hands. They have also vowed to take care of any infiltrating "armed groups". The problem is these "armed groups" are none other than Kurdish peshmerga, who swarm all over the city. The Kurds are extremely incensed. No wonder: Kirkuk, apart from being oil rich, is the Kurdish Jerusalem.

Posted on the net July 2004:

"Al-Zarqawi Aides Arrested in Kirkuk, Haweeja People Unhappy With Mayor

Khabat daily, Erbil 29 July 2004) - In cooperation with Kirkuk police, the multi-national forces (MNF) have arrested two former officers of the defunct Iraqi intelligence and republican guards who had direct links to Al-Qaeda terrorist Al-Zarqawi in the city days ago, The MNF commander in Kirkuk announced. On the other hand, members of Haweeja district municipal council submitted a memory to the Kirkuk Governor demanding him to dismiss the town's mayor for his failure in preserving security and stability in Haweeja, which became a center for abduction and terrorism in the past months, according to the memo.
