Pastoral Letter from Wilton D. Gregory, Archbishop of Atlanta, Regarding Immigration Reform
http://www.archatl.com/ ^ | March 1, 2006 | Wilton D. Gregory

Posted on 03/04/2006 9:16:38 AM PST by brainstem223

America has always been a country built of many immigrant peoples, who bring with them richness in cultures and diversity from all areas of the world. Our nation has consistently welcomed immigrants, refugees, and exiles fleeing injustice and oppression and seeking liberty and the opportunity to achieve a full life. They have found work, built homes and lives, and provided security for themselves and their families.

During the past 20 years, about 23 million newcomers have arrived in our nation, surpassing the “first great wave” of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in terms of the numbers of immigrants arriving in the United States. Unlike their predecessors, most of the current immigrants come from Mexico and Central and Latin America. Today the foreign-born comprise about 12 percent of the total population of the country, compared with 15 percent at the beginning of the 20th century.

At the same time, U.S. immigration laws and policies have become increasingly restrictive and even harmful to some immigrants and those seeking asylum. It is estimated that over 10 million people live on the margins of our society for lack of proper immigration documentation. In the last five years alone, more than 250,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in the state of Georgia, bringing their total to nearly 800,000 people or about 9 percent of our state’s population.

Today’s immigrants often face rejection, hostility, and discrimination in our communities and even within the Church. Though we often celebrate the diversity in our communities, we bishops must confess that today, as in the past, the treatment of the immigrant too often reflects failures of understanding and sinful patterns of chauvinism, prejudice, and discrimination that deny the unity of the human family.

No place is safe from the invasion.

Unlike their predecessors, most of the current immigrants come from Mexico and Central and Latin America.
AND unlike their predacessors, the DO NOT want to assimilate into our society. They, forgetting WHY they left their own country, want to screw ours up just like the place they left.

but also provide a legal and secure means of entry for prospective immigrants and people seeking asylum.

Already in place. I DOES NOT involve a midnight trip across the desert in the back of a cargo truck.

This guy is a political idiot.

A lie on his second breath.

And most people don't know squat about or care to know about history to challenge this nonsense.

Hes a fool. People like him get worked up and call the enforcement of our immigration policies 'racist'. False propaganda. Many Mexicans are blonde hair and blue eyed. Some, a minority. It is not about race. Its about being a nation of laws where evryone has a fair chance.
How fair is it if people obey the law and file the paper work to come her leagaly only to find out that those coming illegaly are ahead of them and doing better because churches put them up and give them jobs?
Stinks.

Hmmmmm...

It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that most of these ILLEGAL immigrants are Catholic, would it?

Priests, Imams, Mullahs, Monks and Rabbis should preach -- and stay the Hell out of circumventing the Law or participating in encouraging invasion..

Perhaps the Catholic church should take financial responsibility for the costs to taxpayers these "new Catholics" are costing.

Perhaps they're "tapped out" from the liabilities incurred from their Homosexual pedophile priests.

What does the Bishops not understand about the word ILLEGAL?

Are the Bishops encouraging us to break the Law? Since when did these Bishops become politicians? They do not have any respect for the laws of the USA!

It seems that the Bishops sound like they are lobbyst for Vincente Fox when they talk about MIGRATION and the need for unskilled laborer!

Why don't these Bishop talk about how Vincente Fox is mistreating these people and not providing livable conditions in their countries? What is Vincente Fox doing with all of the money that he gets from the Oil drilling in Mexico?

These Bishops talk about disobeying the immigration Laws of our country but they do no support the Prohibition of Abortions in the Catholic Church. Have you heard any of thee bishops talk about the Pro Abortion Culture supported by the various Catholic Democratice Politicians? What has Wilton Gregory every said about the abortion position of Senators Kennedy, Leahy, Dodd, Biden, Murray, Mikulski, Durbin, Salazaar, Menedez and the 50 catholic Members of the House of Representatives?

Wilton Gregory and his fellow bishops are trying to impose a false philosophy upon us! I agree the Tax Exempt status of the Catholic diocese of Savanaah and Atlanta should be revoked

We don't need more illegal immigrants. We need to control our borders. Illegals don't come here because they're oppressed, they come here to make money.

I'm a TN LEO. One of our shifts stopped a van with 29 illegal immigrants in it Wednesday night. They took them all to jail charged them with Criminal Trespass and called INS.

When I came on shift I laughed and told the Officers of the previous shift that they had wasted not only their time and efforts but of all of our Departments Corrections Officers time as well.

INS called back and told our department to turn all 29 loose that they would not address the situation. The Judge threw out the Criminal Trespass charges and they were returned to their van.

I asked the officer why he charged them with criminal trespass? He said because they were in his country......

These migrant workers wound up with a meal, rest and a good nights sleep before moving on to Florida to pick oranges.

I now no longer believe aliens are considered criminal. They have a purpose and are wanted in the US. The reason is to assist in the elevation of the standard of living in Mexico.Every payday a Mexican will buy a case of beer, pay his Tote UR Note car payment and send money home to MX.

This is another step of NAFTA to raise the standard of living for the forth coming merger of Mexico- United States- Canada into one entity.

Catholics should send a message to Wilton Gregory by reducing the weekly collections to their parishes by 50%.

Every Parish is the diocese of Atlanta is required to send to the Archbishop 21% of the weekly collections. If you think that the money that you are giving to your parish goes 100% to the parish you are wrong! Money is the one thing that these Bishops understand and if they are forced to take a cut in pay, just watch their perspectives change on this issue!

The country needs replacements for the 40+ million Americans aborted by their moms...and the children the aborted would have born...

The church needs fresh 'donaters' as well, as their popularity wanes, ..for a variety of reasons...

Illegal aliens, narco terrorists, their offspring, and those diseased infested om's & otms along for the ride.....God's curse upon America...

Buckle up.....or pucker up

imo

While their archdioceses are roiling with homosexual pedophile priests victimizing young boys, they have time for this pontificating this garbage. Lawlessness breeds more lawlessness.

The church is like a political party.

They want to build up their constituency, i.e., more members more revenue!

This is an easy political positition to stake out.

The reason that they can not deal with the Democratic Catholic Pro Abortion Politicians is that these politicians know a lot more about many of the pedofilia skeletons that are buried in the closets of these dioceses.

If these bishops take a strong stand against the Pro Abortion Catholic Democrats, these bishops will have all of their dirty laundry exposed!

I am not a Catholic, and I have no problem with the Catholic church per se, but many of the people that work for them piss me off on a regular basis.

What would happen if the US stopped illegal immagration form MExico? probably the pressure relief valve would be broken and citizens tied of corruption and drug lords would revolt. We are keeping a corrupt regime afloat by taking int mexicans and cubans. Let them stay home and fix their problems.
