8th-grader brings cocaine to school

TAUNTON — A 14-year-old honors student was arrested at Parker Middle School for cocaine possession after students and a parent tipped off school officials.

The 8th-grader was charged after school officials found cocaine in her pocketbook Thursday morning.

The items included a small white straw with a white powdery residue on it. The powder tested positive for cocaine.

Principal Raymond O'Malley also found a plastic baggie containing cocaine, a pink cigarette lighter and two small pills in packaging labeled Loratadine.

The girl admitted that she was in possession of the cocaine and told Patrolman Helvio J. Silveira that she had gotten it from a cabinet in her home where she said her father commonly keeps his cocaine and marijuana.

She claimed she uses marijuana but insisted she does not use cocaine.

O'Malley said he has filed a neglect and abuse complaint with the Department of Social Services.

"It's for the protection of the child. She needs help. It's a terrible situation. I don't know if what she did was a cry for help or if she's experimenting," O'Malley said.

"Hopefully she will get the help she needs," O'Malley said.

O'Malley said he was tipped off by some students.

He also got a call from the mother of a friend of the 14-year-old girl.

The woman told O'Malley that her own daughter was with the girl and cocaine was present on Wednesday.

According to the police report, the other student had been hospitalized after telling her mother she used cocaine with the 14-year-old.

The 14-year-old girl denied that they had used cocaine.

Silveira said the girl was cooperative.

"It's really a shame. She's an honor roll student and a nice girl," Silveira said.

The 14-year-old girl was brought to the police station and charged with possession of cocaine and released to her father's custody. She was arraigned in Juvenile Court Friday.

O'Malley said she has been suspended until further notice.

Apparently, neither is the Honor Roll.

If we legalized drugs, we'd have more kids on the honor roll.

One has to wonder how bad these drugs really are if a 14-year-old kid can do them and still be on the Honor Roll.

I caught that too. Since it didn't say, are we to assume it's "out of the frying pan, into the fire?"

Another victory for Soros.

After reading this thread and your post, I am getting a mental image of a really bad episode of Jerry Springer.

Not sure what we are being told, but if she got her happy powder from the father does not make sense she would be placed back into his custody.

I've heard that college kids are stealing Ritalin from their younger ADD siblings for precisely that.

I don't know why she would bring the stuff to school. I'm sure they sell it there!

Jerry Springer indeed, says much about what 'honor' means these days.

Wouldn't be the first time the courts have acted in an idiotic manner. Just hope that's not the case.

Another way is to take Ritalin pills, chop them up, and use the powder as if it were cocaine.

How severely did he beat her for raiding his "stash" and revealing his criminal activities?

and released to her father's custody.

So she and her father could go home and do a few lines together? No one thought to get a search warrant and bust the father for possession?
