Wrong. Lincoln loaned Judd $3,000 @ 10% interest. Lincoln received a quitclaim deed to the property - meaning it was his. The is no record of Judd repaying the $3000.

Also from Rudolph Daniels, Trains Across the Continent: North American Railroad History (2nd Edition), p. 48: "Lincoln realized he was inviting charges of profiteering with the Council Bluffs decsion. He said as much to others. The land he owned in Council Bluffs was withn a few blocks of the proposed Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Depot."
