You bet your life the slaves were close at the closing of the Civil War, and at the right time, for a little long overdue reciprocity, as the once almighty slavers started heading for the hills in 1864-65, or in the case of Mr. Big, Jeff Davis, he was leaving town for the palm tree lined tropical beaches of Havana, Cuba, which as I recall was still under the control of Spain - Davis was rerouted and no palm trees....eh?
