A man whose makeshift mannequin failed to fool police monitoring a high-occupancy vehicle lane now must hold a sign alongside the highway reading: "HOV lane not for dummies."
A judge in Colorado has ordered Greg Pringle to stand alongside the road for four one-hour sessions that are scheduled to begin Monday.
Pringle plans to have the mannequin with him during the sessions. He's named it "Tillie."
Pringle has also paid a $100 fine.
He was ticketed Jan. 26 for driving an unauthorized vehicle in a high-occupancy lane, which are open only to buses, motorcycles, vehicles carrying two or more people and hybrid vehicles.
Officer Mark Watters with the mannequin he confiscated during the traffic stop.
Ehh, kinda sounds like fun.
"HA HA!"
Where's the guy I argue with over the 'cruel and unusual' clause?
Cruel, no, unusual, maybe.
I've often been tempted to make a headrest that was more or less in the shape of a face and put a halloween mask and a hat on it.
That way when you are sitting alone in the car in a parking lot it looks like you have someone with you. It might discourage car-jackers. ;-) Wink wink.
Dangerous for him but also for motorists seeing as how everyone rubbernecks when they see something on the side of the road.
There's a well-known sports talk show host here in DFW, that used a stuffed Panda bear to trick the cops, in fact, it became part of the schtick on the radio station. They even created on on-air character, funny stuff.
HOV lanes are stupid and they accomplish nothing.
These HOV lanes were designed to fight congestion -- allowing single-occupancy hybrids to use them doesn't make any sense. Hybrid or not -- the contribution to congestion is the same.
