The bungling Bush presidency is falling apart
Newsday ^ | March 3, 2006 | James Klurfeld

Posted on 03/03/2006 3:26:40 AM PST by Cannoneer No. 4

An old acquaintance in Washington - a former member of Republican administrations whose foreign policy views are decidedly hard-line - recently had this to say to a friend about the Bush administration: This might be the most inept administration in American history.

But it should come as no surprise that President George W. Bush has fallen to an approval rating of 34 percent in a recent national poll. Just look at the events in this winter of his discontent:

Members of his own party have turned against him on the issues of whether a company owned by the United Arab Emirates should control six major ports in the United States.

As more and more information leaks out about the unauthorized and very likely illegal eavesdropping by the National Security Administration, there is more talk - only whispered at the moment - that there ought to be an impeachment inquiry into Bush's behavior.

But I fear we are now seeing the other side of the coin with Bush. His lack of historical perspective, his crusading religiousness, his Texas-style shoot-first-ask-questions-later approach to complex problems - that is, all the shortcomings that were obvious from the beginning of his presidency - seem to be catching up with him now. It's one thing to be a decisive leader. It is quite another to be consistently making the wrong decisions.

This is a presidency coming unraveled before our eyes. It is not a pretty sight, and it is not good for the country. What a difference a year makes. After his re-election, Bush said that he would use his political capital.

Soon he won't have any left. Then what?

If you don't think Bush has sold you down the river, you're a kool-aid drinking Bushbot, right dirtboy?

OK, now please tell me how that means freepers would rather have Hillary.

except for the courts and the WOT

The two crucial issues.

Congress holds the purse strings.
President Bush offered a plan to deal with illegal immigration. Congress has not acted.
Taxes will be raised whenever the democrats gain control of Congress.

Do your own research. Lots of threads to go through. You have all morning. Knock yourself out.

Are you Mary Mapes' cousin?

You made the claim. You need to back it up, I don't have to prove a negative.

In years to come I have no doubt that Bush will be regarded as one of the finest and most courageous presidents. Note how Reagan was attacked throughout his term, and now he's considered one of the best. The public is fickle, but truth will out.

That's not what you said. You said this:

A huge number of Freepers prefer Hillary to the President.

I think you're wrong on all counts. You do not have a grasp on the functions of government. But do rave on.

Ah - when called upon to substantiate your claim, you first demand that I do it. Then you engage in a vulgar personal attack.

Boy, you sure are gonna convince me that your position is better than mine.

And don't whine, Mary.

great reply I give you concrete examples of Executive branch not enforcing our immigration laws and the massive expansion of fed gov under bush and you reply with an Democrat type response: "if I say you are wrong I do not have to prove how- my statement makes it so."
How sad you have no answer to the obvious blunders of this Adm.

This administration has endured a media push unlike anything we've seen in our lifetime. The administration has not been able to get in front of anything because there's nothing to get in front of. EVERYTHING IS A SCANDAL IN THE EYES OF THE MEDIA.

I agree

No Child Left Behind is forcing schools to spend more money on core subjects like math, science and english and paying less into subjects like health and music...Like the president is forcing her children to eat twinkies, watch TV and play video games.

Speaking of school curricula, are home-schooled kids obligated to take phys ed?

Perhaps school-based sports are a remnant of the old days, when folks didn't have cars, so the kids needed to get their sports opportunities while they were with other kids at school.

Times have changed. Kids used to take showers at school, after gym. That practice is no longer followed.

I think sports should be supported by localities rather than by schools. That way public- and private-, and home-schooled kids could meet together outside of school, like they do in our local soccer leagues.

School "gym classes" should consist of having the kids walk around the track, doing calisthenics, exercising or whatever else is found to be most beneficial.

The town, township, county should provide the sports/games opportunities.

Unappeasable? I support Bush more often than not. But your so busy attacking anyone who dissents from the party line, that you don't care, do you?

I have deemed your whinings a waste of time owing to the salient fact that you do not have a grasp of the functions of government.

" His posse is a lot smaller than he thought it was."

He can blame himself for that. I'm off the bandwagon. I'll continue to support him in some way in that he is opposing the liberals but his administration has been a disappointment to me. He has done nothing to curtail the wild spending of his Presidency(not a single veto!), he has left the borders wide open, the planning for the aftermath of the war (which I suppoted) has been a disaster, he has created a raft of expensive new entitlements, he has signed things like CFR, he has handed out (or tried to) important positions to cronies like Brown and Harriet Miers. Had Bill Clinton taken some of the stances Bush has, and proposed some of the same legislation you'd be livid and rightly show. Cue the Bush-Bot attacks. You know in your heart of hearts that i'm right and that Bush is more RINO than conservative.
