03/02/06 FOX Poll: Most Oppose Port Deal; Republicans Lose Ground Thursday, March 02, 2006 By Dana Blanton PHOTOS

Most Americans oppose allowing a Dubai company to run some U.S. ports, even as a majority understands the U.S. would continue to control port security, according to a new FOX News poll. One in four sees the United Arab Emirates as a strong ally, but most either disagree or are unsure.

In addition, the poll shows Republicans have lost ground on the issue of terrorism, and by a wide margin voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this year’s midterm election.

For only the second time of his presidency, the poll finds that President Bush’s overall job approval rating has fallen below 40 percent — today 39 percent of Americans say they approve and a 54 percent majority disapproves. Late last year the president’s approval hit a record-low of 36 percent (8-9 November 2005).

In total Bush is a failure.

At least you finally own up to your real motivation.

If your definition of failure is tax cuts, returning decency to the White House, putting conservatives on the bench, promoting a culture of life, improving readiness and morale within the military, and preventing us from starting/getting us out of antiquated or bad treaties, then we're in full agreement. Otherwise you're just another whiny turd in the punchbowl.

Exactly! What Dave is saying makes no sense. Take my state of TN for instance. Is anyone who was inclined to vote for whomever the Republicans run for senate going to nevertheless vote for Harold Ford Jr just because he's mad at Bush? I just don't see how this means more votes for Junior.

"Just making apoint. We need Dubai far more than they need us."

With all due respect, a fallacious point used for justification to compromise on this Dubai port deal.

How's LV by the way? I've visited there a half dozen times, not really crazy about the gambling or shows, or the glitz... But the women, that's a different story... And Red Rock, Valley of Fire, they're both stunningly beautiful...

I assume you like it better than NYC?

Wow. What witty repartais. What a great marshalling of logic and rhetoric. Positively Churchillian there Coop.

...whines the fella who bestowed upon us such profound "Bush is a total failure" wisdom, only to have it picked apart piece by piece by "Junior."

And come November this ports flap will be a distant memory, just like the Harriet Myers thing that got under the skin of the far right is now all but forgotten. 8 months is a lifetime in politics. And should there be another Supreme Court vacancy between now and then, that will serve to focus the minds of conservatives even more on voting for conservative candidates. But the stridency of the Dems. which hasn't even hit full stride yet will be the best get out the vote tool the GOP has for its core voters. Most conservatives are fed up with this extremist partisanship out of the Dems. and are just itching to make them pay for it at the polls.

With similar respect, may I ask what specific evidence you have that this company, this group of managers, is in any way connected to any terrorist activites?

If you have any evidence about this specific case, I promise to take it seriously.

I saw the sampling of this FOX poll.. It surveyed 10% more Democrats than Republicans (43% Dem. 33%Rep.), and was sampled in a "Blue" area. FOX has me puzzled here as to why they would also skew a poll like CBS did and was imbalanced in almost identical numbers.

There is a semantic difference here.

No there's not, Pops. But of course that won't prevent you from continuing your "definition of 'is' is" argument.

Go ahead and mock my knowledge of grammar, punctuation, etc. Ah reckon it still don't remove that arse-kickin' yah got a few posts back.

Part of it is just the sloppy nature of media polls. I worked in polling for a long time. Media polls tend to be commissioned quickly based on events, and the client wants the results ASAP to get them on the news. So there is no time to balance for party I.D. and weighting the data can be expensive and cost time. So they just run with whatever their fishing net brings in and realize the public, journalists and many pundits are too stupid to question it.

I'm sure there is a certain amount of bias that enters into it as well. The media is clearly out to bring down Bush. If rigged polls make him look horrifically unpopular, then maybe it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy through a sort of peer effect.

Remember one important dynamic/fact about our current state of the Union....

In this day of 15 second sound bites, whirlwind political rhetoric, politics of personal destruction without constructive solutions and misinformed less-than-truthful MSM propaganda, the American Public has become skeptical of most everything they hear.

The public now views most polling data as nothing more than political manipulation by the MSM and take it as they would take worthless rhetoric.

Hopefully soon, they will also realize that the media is stringing them along like a kite. All of them!

The media is now 99% BS and is making the story, not reporting it. All of the media with the exception of a few analysts.

You keep going and going, clapping those little symbols, and making a bit of racket to get attention--but ultimately saying nothing and going nowhere.

And yet still able to get you to agree to every one of my points, thereby highlighting the absurdity of your rhetoric. Not too bad for a cute bunny that don't unnerstand Engrish.

Perhaps but how many Republicans unhappy over the borders, the ports, the deficit and any number of issues are going to sit home on election day if its rainning or vote some stupid protest with the Libertarians or other third party.
