03/02/06 FOX Poll: Most Oppose Port Deal; Republicans Lose Ground Thursday, March 02, 2006 By Dana Blanton PHOTOS
Most Americans oppose allowing a Dubai company to run some U.S. ports, even as a majority understands the U.S. would continue to control port security, according to a new FOX News poll. One in four sees the United Arab Emirates as a strong ally, but most either disagree or are unsure.
In addition, the poll shows Republicans have lost ground on the issue of terrorism, and by a wide margin voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this years midterm election.
For only the second time of his presidency, the poll finds that President Bushs overall job approval rating has fallen below 40 percent today 39 percent of Americans say they approve and a 54 percent majority disapproves. Late last year the presidents approval hit a record-low of 36 percent (8-9 November 2005).

"The people who run the UAE". I don't trust the people who run the United State's Government, to be honest. But that's a pretty broad, pretty general accusation.
You're gonna have to get more specific here, if you want to make a case.
Which people in the UAE do you think have control of this company, and are a security risk? And what evidence do you have for suspecting these people?
"On the other hand, how do you explain Dawood Ibrahim's ability to operate his terrorist criminal syndicate-with relative impunity-out of Dubai for so many years?"
Dang you fight dirty. Because the elite sheiks (aka govt) of Dubai secretly enables terrorism?
They won't dispute it because it's true. They just start throwing out the racist card, they always do.
Again, if the UAE is such a vaunted ally in the GWOT then why is Dawood Ibrahim chilling out in Pakistan, instead of rotting away in solitary confinement in an Indian or Dubai prison?
Yeah and he conspired with American airlines and the US customs. Yeah US banks gave him money, their in it too. Yeah, remember the box cutters form Walmart, They were in it too. Hillery was on the Walmart board and helped set it up with the Carlyle group who owns DP. Yeah!!!! Yeah!!!! Yeah!!!! Yeah!!!!
LMAO!
The U.S.S. Cole.
The Riyadh bombings.
The Dharan Marine barracks attack by Hezbollah and Al Qaeda.
Kidnappings and executions in Aden.
Pirates from North Africa and the Mediterranean.
And it goes on and on.
Let me put this another way.
For the sake of argument, let's say that Serbia & Montenegro had a company with the requisite credentials, and as sterling a reputation as DP World allegedly enjoys.
Let's also stipulate that in this scenario that we enjoy cordial diplomatic relations with Serbia, and it is a nation in good standing with the international community.
A country whose government-which is democratically elected, might I add-has no documented ties to Islamic terrorists, is in fact Christian, and which had been a staunch ally of the United States prior to the Clinton administration's about-face in 1998-1999.
However, also a country whose government has members who have been involved with criminal syndicates, and who have been accused of tacit endorsement of smuggling, and allying itself with E. European mafia figures.
Would we trust Serbia under those conditions?
If not, then why on earth would we trust a nation with the same sort of dubious history, re: transnational criminal activity and unsavory political associations, which is also run by people who practice one of the most austere versions of Islam imaginable?
It's already not much fun being a kook, is it?
Yeah I was in a hurry. It should have been African American Muslims. They were Afro American Muslims 35 years ago. You know how it is, all Arabs look alike.
Double Muslims is what he called them. :-)
Just making apoint. We need Dubai far more than they need us.
If that's true then we're more screwed than I had initially thought.
Then you must be more tired than you realize.
What isn't "the truth?" That DP World is controlled by Ofer Brothers Group? That Zim Intergrated Shipping isn't controlled by the Ofer Brothers Group as well? That the UAE is a gathering place for terrorist and money laundering? Which one of those is not the truth?
Looks like questions to me. The little weird shaped thingys at the end of each sentence should be a dead giveaway.
Who should manage them?
Of all those who expressed an interest, which should it be?
Yeah, no kidding.
If that's true, then you don't understand the value of leverage in projected warfare.
People here have been caterwauling about the longshoreman's union-and I readily concede that their endemic corruption, and the unreasonable demands of organized labor have probably driven American companies that would have otherwise been willing to bid for this contract out of the shipping business-but to say that a corporation headquartered in the United Arab Emerites is an acceptable alternative is absurd.
Even assuming that there no terrorist attacks will occur as a result of this deal-and that DP World will be an impeccable manager-what possible benefit does America gain as a result?
When you subject this agreement to a rigorous cost-benefit analysis, what are the benefits that will accrue to us?
What diplomatic or military objective is so worthy that our government is willing to sacrifice our homeland security?
Yes, I understand your position.
But this is not about some rhetorical discussion.
What is the name of the U.S. company (which satifies your requirements) that can start on time, seemlessly, on the operation of these ports?
Name it.
