3/1: O’Reilly dumped off 680/The Fan

Bill O’Reilly’s “O’Reilly Factor” remains the top-rated cable news show but his syndicated radio show has not translated as well. After more than three years on 680/The Fan, sandwiched between sports talk shows, he is now being moved to WFOB-AM1230, which only covers Cobb County.

His replacement, ESPN syndicated sports talker Dan Patrick, takes over the 1 to 3 p.m. slot. President David Dickey said he thinks Patrick has improved the past four years and fits better with the station. 790/The Zone’s Steak Shapiro, whose station has beaten 680/The Fan for most of the past three years in ratings, told me: “It’s another failed experiment by 680. They’re clearly not committed to live and local.” (680 runs syndicated shows from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays while 790 is local all day.)

Chuck Shiflett small Am station, WYXC-AM/1270 of Cartersvile sent me this note: Hey Randy [sic], just wanted to let you know that Bill O’Reilly is also available on NewsTalk AM 1270 - WYXC in Cartersville. Daytime signal covers from Acworth/Kennesaw north almost to Dalton. Check us out at www.NewsTalk1270.com - we stream 24/7

O’Reilly runs against Rush Limbaugh, which is tough competition. Michael Harrison, who heads “Talkers” magazine, said relatively speaking, O’Reilly isn’t doing too badly. “It’s doing okay. He’s no Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. But he’s not chopped liver. He’s doing very well considering his real strength lies in television because of the total package of his persona, his charisma, his look. I think O’Reilly has done very well with talk radio. His show is certainly a success.”

Talkers ranks him tied for 8th with about 3.25 million weekly listners, along with Jim Bohannon, Clark Howard and Doug Stephen. Talks ranked the top 10 talkers as:

Rush Limbaugh (heard locally on WGST)

Sean Hannity (heard locally on WSB-AM)

Michael Savage (heard locally on WSB-AM)

Dr. Laura (heard only on XM Radio locally)

Laura Ingraham (heard on WGKA 920-AM locally)

Neal Boortz (heard on WSB-AM locally), tied with David Gallagher (heard locally at night on WGKA-AM 920)

I'm looking forward to seeing Mark Levin on the top 10 list, ahead of Savage.

O’Reilly dumped off 680

At first, I thought someone threw him off a freeway overpass.

Mark Levin is far too annoying. He thinks FReepers are a bunch of imbeciles, and only puts up with us. He's an asshat.

I have a hard time understanding why so many FReepers are so anti-Bill O'Reilly. I agree he can be a blow-hard and has an ego as big as all outdoors (but not nearly as big as Rush Limbaugh's).

O'Reilly has a huge audience and a lot of clout, which he usually uses for good. He's in the forefront of the flight against progressive secularism and the ACLU. He's battling MSM and child predators. He's not afraid to take on all comers.

Just because you don't agree with him on every issue ....

I don't always either.
