GREGORY'S GIGGLES: NBCNEWS WHITE HOUSE REPORTER CALLS SHOW 'DRUNK' Thu Mar 02 2006 08:52:09 ET

NBC White House correspondent David Gregory, who apologized last week for calling White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan a "jerk," called into MSNBC's IMUS Thursday morning -- apparently drunk!

Gregory is traveling with the president in India.

IMUS: Let's go to the White House correspondent David Gregory.

DAVID GREGORY: I'm OK.

IMUS: You can calls us later if you want.

GREGORY: [Laughter] [Laughter] [Laughter] [Laughter]

IMUS: Are you drunk?

GREGORY: [Laughter] [Laughter]

IMUS: Are you all right David?

GREGORY: India is a wonderful language and i've been learning, where's my little sheet here. I've been learning some new phrases to come home. But any way, that being one of them and i just think it's nice.

IMUS: It is.

GREGORY: Thank you.

IMUS: Having a lot of fun there. What's wrong with you?

GREGORY: I just think it's funny. [Laughter] [Laughter] [Laughter]

CHARLES: He's drunk.

IMUS: He is drunk!

CHARLES: Oh god.

IMUS: Why don't you compose yourself and get back to us. You want to?

GREGORY: [Laughter] [Laughter] [Laughter]

IMUS: What are you in some harrem?

IMUS: What? David?

GREGORY: No, i'm fine.

IMUS: We need a camera.

Oh my lord.

IMUS: Somebody's got --

GREGORY: i was -- remember that movie "Arthur" with Dudley Moore where he just thinks funny things and that's what was going on. If i could find this sheet, actually i just found it. Anyway.

IMUS: You have any news? [Laughter]

IMUS: we got to go, we'll get back to you.

GREGORY: I'm sorry.

IMUS: That's all right.

IMUS: Well, call us back will you?

GREGORY: Anyway. There are serious things going on here which i know you're very interested in.

IMUS: We don't have any time for them now. Quickly.

GREGORY: Big deal between India and the United States. The upshot is we're going to provide nuclear know-how and fuel to india which they need for their economy to grow. But since they never signed the nonproliferation treaty it's a real turn around and critics worry that it sends the wrong message to other parts of the world.

IMUS: Ok.

GREGORY: I would add, i would add that this is how you say thank you.

IMUS: What is it again?

[Speaking foreign language]

IMUS: Well that's great. But we have to go. It's always nice to hear from you.

GREGORY: I'll call you after dinner.

IMUS: NBC Chief White House Correspondant from New Delhi, India. Clearly drunk.

huh... I know the symptoms! :)

How wonderful for the media that they get to criticize everything and everyone but no one keeps an eye on them!... It must be great being as dysfunctional as one can be... and NOBODY looks into their lives. This is probably what gives them that sense of power.

"Boy Gregory" is probably coming out of the closet soon. This g*y? has problems.

Imus calls lots of his callers "drunk". At least he used to when I listened to him, which I don't anymore.

I'm telling everybody David Gregory is a drunk!

Well, since he did that this morning on Imus, I suppose we can too.

You're probably right that it was travel fatigue but you certainly are a good defender of his unprofessionalism in any regard. Does it really take 7 posts to bring someone over to your point of view?

Just trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt, besides, I see people here, that act no better than those that we are supposed to make fun of...also, I'm bored. Thank you for counting.

I have an anonymous source that says Gregory was not only drunk and high, but caused a scene in the hotel bar by dancing on the tables with a quart of scotch sticking out of his pants.

Completely true, after all, my source said so. And that should be enough "proof" for anybody....

On America's Most Wanted for narcotics possession court no-show?
I thought they focused on more dangerous people.

Exactly...Who knows what happened with Gregory this morning, but Imus happens to be fond of him.

Imus's ratings have plummeted in the past few months, this is nothing but a ploy to draw more attention to, Imus In The Morning Show.

I think America can get along just fine without Imus.

***From 'Sloppy Seconds' to Foster Brooks impersonations.
This isn't the 'Golden Age' of White House reporting.***

Not only that, but Foster Brooks was hilarious. Gregory is infuriating.

If we can't laugh at pub-alic drunkenness, what can we laugh at?

IMUS: Can I call you a cab?
GREGORY: I'll sober up when I feel like it!!

Your hypothetical question is specious. What he does on his own time is up to him. He knowingly went on the air intoxicated and that is atrocious judgement.

Just for the record a day in day out alcoholic (not the weekend binge drinker alcoholic) usually can "hold their liquor" unfortunately.

That's until they begin to have some brain deterioration, other than the smell of alcohol they may be flying planes, doing surgery or teaching in our schools. Once they 'dry-up', they keep that 'alchy' personality, much like Imus.
