The Bush administration, stung by the public outcry over the Dubai port deal, has launched a national security investigation of another Dubai-owned company set to take over plants in Georgia and Connecticut that make precision components used in engines for military aircraft and tanks, the WASHINGTON POST is planning to report on Thursday.
It is also investigating an Israeli company's plans to buy the Maryland software security firm Sourcefire, which does business with Defense Department agencies.
Sources familiar with the Israeli investigation said cybersecurity officials at the departments of Defense, Justice and Homeland Security all raised serious concerns about the purchase before the port controversy erupted.
Dubai International Capital's acquisition of Doncasters could present some of the same political problems created by Dubai Ports World's purchase of London-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co. Once again, a state-controlled Dubai company with deep pockets is purchasing a British firm with U.S. holdings

Nice of you to point that out. A url would help all of us who didn't see the original. Thanks. :)
Thanks, I just posted my comment there:

I think that it is very important, the timing.
Isn't that amazing? This so-called progressive Arab country denies Israel's right to exist!
And then, whe exactly found it so important to muddy the waters and report about Israel just now?
I'm not usually so suspicious, but this is just too obvious.
I can't find much sympathy when those who criticized a good ally in the WOT for their purchase suddenly get wounded when another foreign company is being investigated thoroughly. For a week all we heard was "No foreign ownership of anything involving our defense" or whatever, so this turnaround would be amusing if it weren't so blatantly hypocritical.
Check 'em all or check none of 'em, and we sure as heck ain't checking none of them, nor should we. We check out US companies invovled in this stuff, so why not? Aren't we all so hugely concerned with security?
I don't know how the Washington Post will portray the deal in its article tomorrow. But, I don't think the Israeli firm is a villain in this. The Drudge article links to another article (I will put the link below also). That other article points out that Dubai Ports World got much more favorable treatment from the CFIUS than the Israeli firm (Check Point) did. In fact, the Israeli firm is having to go through the longer, 45-day review. Out of about 1,600 applications that have gone thru CFIUS, only 25 to 50 have received the 45-day review----with this Israeli application being one of them. Link to the other article:

I see your point byby, I don't think that the US should put Israel's concerns above its own.
I think that where the issue is, is that in order to justify the deal, the UAE is praised as our 'partner in anti-terrorism' etc. Now if you just pull things apart a bit, all the 'terrorist' arab countries' ultimate goal is to destro Israel, and the Infidels. How can a country be on both sides of the fence? And I would even go farther and say that the US has made a huge mistake in buying oil from regimes that invest in our destruction. This is total insanity.
Remember the USSR line that 'we will sell them the rope that they will hang us with', well if the Saudi funding of the fanatical Islam doesn't fit the bill, then nothing does.
So, I agree with you, I just believe that the US and Israeli ultimate good is the same.
I totally agree with you, I also think all foreign purchases touching on national security should be checked out.
I just find this a bit suspicious in terms of timing. The painting of the UAE as so open, etc, and then to find that they boycott Israel... Do you even know what that means? It's like the boycott of Denmark! Nothing that has ANY part or ingredient that comes from Israel is allowed in their country!
They refuse Israel the right to exist, this is the rationale for their boycott. Then the Bush administration says that this is inconsequential and the deal will go through... then this article on Israel. Inquiring minds want to know!...
Thanks for the link.
I just love the comparisons between Arab countries and Israel.
Israel who only wants peace. Who has only fought defensively, and then negotiated back its wins for a peace treaty.
And then to be compared to regimes who fund terrorism.... ONe must be totally morally and logically asleep to put these two peoples in the same category.
Just Damn. I can't keep up with how much crap is hitting the fan.
I don't get it. Originally this was a private company selling a contract to another private company. The P&O was more than a little insensitive in selling to the UAE, and the US government was too quick to approve it.
But one has to wonder why that makes it the problem for the US government to find an alternate FORIEGN company to take over the contract.
Why isn't it offerd to other American Companies. Its not rocket science. There are hundreds of firms who could handle this.
And also, I don't think you caught the sarcasm in my post...I should work on that. ;)
I think the Dubai deal should go through; nothing I've seen has convinced me otherwise (I started out against it...until I actually read about it). Having said that, I want them checked out thoroughly. Ditto with Israel or ANY foreign company buying into these companies; people seem to forget the large number of terrorists, suspects and mullahs in Britain.
satan is attacking Good America, but he will be defeated. GOD is with us, and HE is always with our President. Far too many Republicans are forgetting that fact. Have faith!
