True, but consider... Clinton probably would've preferred a nuclear pact with China involving the transfer of all of our nuclear technologies to China, and various other classified stealth technologies and cruise missile technology.
Clinton, Bill and Hillary, subscribe to the liberal idea that the world needs an opponent to American military might that is equal or greater than ours. The liberal belief is that an unopposed American super power is the greatest danger to future peace and progress. They don't believe that any such opponent would use that military power except in defense. More fool to them, but I'd rather not find out the hard way.
YaY!!!!
Like my Calcuttan friends would say...."Mishti!"
A great way to start the day here on the East coast.
OK. The nuke deal is through. My initial euphoria has worn off.
Now gotta worry about Congress. (the US one).
Time to 'Wait and Hope'.
(Or like the libs would say "Mate and Dope")
I think the Bush Administration has already prepared Congress for this deal....a Dim has introduced some legislation opposing any deal but it may not pick up much steam.
After all, this deal is good for both US and India.
Fox and Friends is covering this as one small story, but by golly they are going to show us the Katrina tape and Karachi's death toll.
You're welcome....this trip by Pres. Bush to India and the forging of new ties between both democracies are truly historic for a variety of reasons. It is really sad to see that even Fox News is falling into the trap of following the Katrina non-story.
While I think this is indeed good news, I would add a note of caution: our relations with India since its independence have not been good, not least because India wants to punch way above its weight and expects to be treated accordingly. It is a country that combines contrasts of affluence/modernity with abject poverty and a viscous caste system unknown elsewhere; it is a democracy of sorts, but has consistently opposed the United States. Working with India is necessary, even good. Trusting India would be a serious mistake. Interestingly, one of my children just finished a study abroad program where the kids spent a month in India and a month in China (among other places). India did not come off well in the comparison.
Its remarkable to me that this isnt frontpage news this AM.
I havent heard a word about it from the talking heads on Fox this morning
Finally, 45 minutes after I turned on the news they mentioned the presidents trip
I just woke up, so my euphoria is just starting........ok, now it ends. As you say, gotta worry about the US Congress.
I agree.
There are many rightwingers of sorts in India who endlessly wonder at the what-ifs. What if it was Patel not Nehru who had become India's first PM, for example. What is they'd aligned solidly with the US and not the USSR? What if Shastri had not died and Indira never had become PM? etc etc etc
Anyway, that was the XXth century. This is the XXIst.
India's time will come. sometime in the next half of this century or maybe the next century altogether. By then we'll all be safely dead. but would be good to know the grandkids inherit a relatively safer world than one where a totalatarian regime (China) or a totalatarian ideology (islam) dominate the planet.
As for the comparison between India and China, sure China looks and feels better. Germany looks and feels better than China does. A generation down the line, China's median population age will be 40+, Germany's will be 55+. The pension system will've collapsed in Germany, Japan and the other ageing economies or the muzlim immigrants will have taken over the asylum. It won't look or feel so nice then. My point being, play the game anticipating where the ball will be 10 seconds from now. Not where the ball is now. (Old ice hockey wisdom, though they don't call it 'ball' methinks).
Have a nice day.
This is good news.I hope the US and India can form not only a partnership but an alliance. I also hope the permanent UN security council gets reformed. It should only have democratic members on it. India should take chinas place and Japan should be added as well. China and to a lesser extent russia doesnt deserve to be on it.
Wondering here if this nucular power deal will reduce global demand for oil?
Question: Wonder what the Dims have to say now??
Answer: {{{crickets}}}
gr8 news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS DEMOCRACIES!!!!
Seems like a smart move to put pressure on Pakistan to find OBL.
Thanks for the news, GK! ...good news, indeed!
heh, heh, can just see the old commies in India going nutz -- this visit and the tacit statement that India MATTERS is going to make Indians love the US even more. And 800 million people (minus the muzzies and commies) on America's side can't be that bad, now can it?
