Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful.

Amazing Grace, I don't care who sings it, the song moves me every time I hear it. The lyrics dont even have to be there, it's a very moving song played on a bugle, bagpipes, even on harmonica.

The Star Spangled Banner.

Agree with regards to Amazing Grace. It was one of the first to come to my mind upon seeing this thread. For some reason I love it on bagpipes. And I generally can't stand bagpipes.

The other is "Battle Hymn of the Republic"

OK, bring on the flames folks...but I honestly don't find The Star Spangled Banner to be very impressive as music. Of course it gets me every time I hear it just because of what it IS and REPRESENTS but jeez, wasn't it originally an old drinking song or something?

It's particularly poignant when you learn that its author, John Newton, was the captain of a slave ship... and the hymn is autobiographical.
