JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A group of Israelis who lost children to Palestinian suicide bombings appealed on Wednesday to organizers of next week's Academy Awards to disqualify a film exploring the reasoning behind such attacks.
The bereaved parents said they had gathered more than 32,000 signatures on a petition against the nomination in the best foreign film category of "Paradise Now", a drama about two West Bank friends recruited to blow themselves up in Tel Aviv.
The controversial film was made by an Israeli Arab director and actors working with a Palestinian crew and locations. The producer was a Jewish Israeli and the funding was European.
Yossi Zur, whose teenage son Asaf was killed in a bus bombing, accused the film of sympathetically portraying a tactic hailed by many Palestinians waging a 5-year-old uprising.

I believe NO-ONE will watch this sorry disgusting award show.....They will soon find out that thier opinions matter to no-one but themselves...
Not only do we ignore, and placate fanatics and terrorists, now we explain and hand out awards. "they were acting out of misplaced aggression"
She would have made for a good Kapo during WWII.
An enemy within. Setting up Jews for the Daniel Pearl Treatment.
Why? It does not glorify the suicide bombers.
This must have been assigned to the busiest department in the Israeli Foreign Ministry: the Don Quixote Department.
That's the department that asks Europeans not to fund Hamas, Russia not to meet with Hamas, Rice to understand Israel's security needs, and other missions impossible.
Ditto....
It's just a feel good teen movie.
But instead of everyone going to the prom, at the end they just explode.
Of course they will acquiesce to Israeli sensitivities, just as their brethren in the media did for the Muslims over the cartoon issues! How could we think otherwise? (sarc)
Also, I hope the ratings are way down this year.....:)
Well if this doesn't guarantee that it takes the oscar, nothing will.
My copy of "The Great Raid" is on the way from Netflix, and I'm saving it for Sunday night.
"The King David Hotel bombing (July 22, 1946) was a bombing attack against the British government of Palestine by members of Irgun a militant Zionist group. The Irgun exploded a bomb at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, which had been the base for the British Secretariat, the military command and a branch of the Criminal Investigation Division (police). 91 people were killed, most of them civilians: 28 British, 41 Arab, 17 Jewish, and 5 other. Around 45 people were injured."
The attack was initially ordered by David Ben Gurion, who was in the United States, but he later changed his mind and ordered the bombing to be cancelled. But Menachem Begin (Israeli Prime Minister from 1977 -83), the head of Irgun, went ahead anyway. Both Ben Gurion and Begin would later become Israeli Prime Ministers. The attack was commanded by Yosef Avni and Yisrael Levi."
