I'm sure the Arubians want their island to become another Cuba.

Why a warship? Just print some Chavez cartoons. :)

Hugo has already brought the country to bankruptcy. An article I read here at FR pointed out that he keeps asking the central bank for more money and they are about tapped out. In true socialist fashion, first bankrupt your own country, then seize other countries to bankrupt. And I must add, Democrats support him.

He and the others like him remind me of the portrayal of the aliens in "Independence Day." They are merely parasites who invade a world, deplete it of all its natural resources, then move on. Democrats, socialists or parasitic space aliens, there is no difference among them.

The Dutch are trying to get the United States to make a port call with an aircraft carrier, and its accompanying warships, at one of their Caribbean islands.

That's the proper way to go about it; the Monroe Doctrine still applies.

Not a bad idea, actually. Baby Huey seems to have gotten the mistaken idea that because we're ignoring his tantrums we're frightened of him. He's always free to send his own aircraft carrier there...oh, wait, he doesn't have one. Too bad.

The Monroe Doctrine says Europeans won't be allowed to interfere in the Americas. It says nothing about one American state attacking another or about an American country attacking a European possession.

There have been a number of wars in Central and South America since the Monroe Doctrine was proclaimed. We didn't get involved.

I like your characterization of Chavez as "Baby Huey." He is such a crybaby. A CVN in his area might cause him to pop an aneurysm (hopefully he has one).

This could be yummy. I'd love to see a repeat of the Falklands war: Holland vs. Venezuela.

Sounds like a soccer match.....

Hey - the Dutch have been one of the few nations to fulfill their NATO obligations and help us.
They have sent security troops, and patriot batteries to help us during the initial runup into iraq.
There NATO specialty is rear scurity, and they have sent raining officers to IRAQ.
It and Ireleand are probably the 2 most US friendly places to travel in Europe.
They still teach that Americans and British liberated them from the NAZI's. and They had the most active underground during WW2.
( and no I'm not dutch, I just had the opportunity to work over there for a month)

That was my immediate thought.

The Dutch are against so much of what he do and stand for - but the minute it looks like trouble, they call for us.

I don't think so, but I think the French do. I believe they are painted pink and fly multiple white flags. Send them. That will scare Hugo.

"Cry about American Imperialism, but demand their protection."

Indeed.

It is time for the adolescent EuroSocialists to start spending their OWN money on their own defense. This will allow their testicles to descend into a more manly anatomical position and concurrently, afford a more mature outlook on the dangers in today's world.

The cradle-to-grave welfare enabled by the umbrella of the American military and American taxpayers, needs to end.

Sometimes when there has been some security threat here in the DC area I look out at the horizon at night, and I can see the unique outline of an AWACS. Usually those AWACS craft are not ours, because ours are over in the Middle East. These are NATO aircraft, crewed by Spanish and Italian and, yes, Dutch men and women. It's a good feeling.

The Dutch like to lecture everybody. It's the national sport, even more so than skating or soccer. It's just a verbal habit on their part; don't let it offend you. But they are awake to the Islamist threat, more so than we are, and they are standing beside us. We can give them a little display of carrier might to oblige them.
