Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Do you think I am foolish enough to get involved with this debate? LOL
That's because
1) You don't impeachment in a time of war .. especially with no evidence of wrong doing
2) Clinton's poll rating went way up when he was impeached and the Dems don' want that to happen with Bush
We are a nation of laws...sort of, when it suits us.
LOL Good points, but Russ does not appear to have much sense. My guess is this is all about him raising money for himself with the kook fringe of his party.
George Allen in the big chair! :)
Reality is .. no immigration bill will get through without some kind of workers program
Because if you start ripping families apart and deporting them .. the MSM will be all over it and the majority of Americans will side with the illegals
Remember .. many children born here are Americans .. though their mothers and fathers aren't
That won't play well in the American eye
However, if they play their cards right and put together a strong immigration bill .. they could cut down the illegal problem
Also IMO .. they need to cut the funding for freeloaders that come here just of the free medical care, housing and schooling
I'll bet you're right, Mo1. That was very interesting about the blogosphere. There is also software that helps translate documents.
I heard that too, Txsleuth. Brit also said this wasn't something that was a pressing issue for Americans; something like that.
I'd better get moving...talk with you all when I get back.
Bye, have fun!!!
And don't even think of politics!!!
This thing may not pass.
They are voting on the Budget Resolution, final passage right now..
I can tell you that Snowe, Collins, Ensign, Coleman have all voted NO so far....
Conrad TOLD the dems to vote NO!
One amendment that got voted down...that made me mad..because quite a few of the Rinos voted against it..including Lugar, Hagel...
Voted AGAINST cutting some funding from the new UN Council on Human Rights...that Bolton is so upset about...
BTW..I just heard that Snowe voted AYE, not NO.
Ensign and Collins just switched votes, and DeWine voted no, until he switches.
Lugar is not a Rino, he's just more of a Bush 41 Pubbie.
There have been SEVERAL amendments that haven't passed by a count of 50-50...in fact, the one I just mentioned about cutting funding to the UN...was a 50-50 vote...and I was screaming for Cheney!!
Damn, it just passed. I can't decide if it's a good thing or not!
Budget resolution S.Con.Res.83 passsed 51-49.
The only time I get mad at Lugar...is when he hangs around Biden too much and votes the way he does...ick.
Passed...51-49
passed 51 - 49
