Providence -- A judge ruled Tuesday that the state cannot seek punitive damages against three lead paint companies found liable for creating a public nuisance in Rhode Island.
The companies Sherwin-Williams Co., NL Industries Inc. and Millennium Holdings LLC still must pay to clean up the mess caused by lead paint, which could amount to billions of dollars.
Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein will decide later exactly what the companies must do to fix the problems

An attempt to destroy the paint industry just as asbestos has wiped out WR Grace, Owens Corning, Crown Cork and Seal, etc.
Crooked lawyer/thieves denied a multi-billion pile of gold.
Sniff, don't you just love happy endings?
Parasites!!!
Except for the different branches of government.
There is something inherently contradictory about that.
...and you can sue the big oil companies for leaded fuel too...
...Maybe someone can sue the Indian Tribes for getting people hooked on tobacco...
...see how silly it gets...
They are saying that there are 240,000 houses in RI with lead paint at a cost of $10,000 a piece allotted for lead paint removal. My question is ..How much is the state going to insist the homeowner pay out of his own pocket for say permits or inspections ? It makes me uncomfortable.
Not to mention all the lead dust that can be potentially released by removal of all that old paint. Safer to leave it on the walls and tell kids not to eat the woodwork!
The paint companies should sue the cities for frivilous lawsuits.
