THREE BOMBS IN TOTAL HIT BAGHDAD, TWO IN EAST, ONE IN CENTRE - POLICE
saddam probably wants a delay because of the explosion at the mosque where his father is buried
[Telephone at Reuters, Baghdad buzzes. Operator answers.]
Operator: "Reuters, Baghdad office. How may I direct your call?"
Caller: "Breaking news desk please."
Operator: "Please hold..."
[Call is redirected to the breaking news desk (BRD).]
Breaking News Desk: "Breaking news desk."
Caller: "There will be an explosion in central Baghdad today."
BRD: "Where, when, and where should our news team set up and still be safe?"
Caller: "Set up by the café on the north side of the square, next to the news stand."
BRD: "Got it. Thanks."
[click, caller hangs up]
[A couple hours later, by the news stand.]
Reuters1: "When is this explosion supposed to go off?"
Reuters2: "It has got to be soon. The guy at the news desk said he's gotten good tips from his guy in the past."
Reuters1: "Hey, did anyone remember to warn the Americans?"
Reuters2: "Heck no! I hope some of them are caught in the explosion."
Reuters1: "Well, what about that school bus of Iraqi kids?"
Reuters2: "Huh? Wh..."
[Explosion cuts off the second member of the news team.]
Reuters2: "Hey, did you get that on film?"
Reuters1: "Yep. Let's hurry up and get this back to the office."
Reuters2: "Yeah... Hey, want to grab a coffee before we go?"
Reuters1: "Sure. Sounds good."
[As they get back in their Peugeot and drive off past the wailing Iraqi men and women pulling body parts of school kids out of the remains of the burning school bus.]
Reuters1: "Do you ever feel as if we should feel guilty about not trying to stop this from happening? You know... given how much warning we get so we can get in place to witness it?"
Reuters2: "Nah, not really. If we did that, the tips would go to someone else, like the Associated Press, and then were would we be?"
Reuters1: "Still... That was a bus full of school kids..."
Reuters2: "It isn't as if we knew that was going to be the target."
Reuters1: "True. It isn't as if we knew."
[Fiction, I hope.]

SUN RISES IN EAST AND SETS IN WEST. ;-)
Strange....I'm in central Baghdad and didn't hear anything.
I've heard about a car bomb over by a theater not too far off, though. Haven't heard any details yet - just that traffic is snarled up over there.
Be careful over there girl. Thank you for your service.
