Cheney seen retiring after midterm elections (Drudge Siren)

Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year.

Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.

The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs. They cited Mr. Cheney's failure to immediately tell the president of the accidental shooting of the vice president's hunting colleague earlier this month. The White House didn't learn of the incident until 18 hours later.

Total BS. I think this article reaps of wishful thinking on Dems, ie. Bush White house in chaos

I heard the "White house is totally in chaos and heading down the rat hole" theory today on Err Amerika in an entirely different context. Sooooo it must be one of the new RAT talking points - WH collapsing under all the evil.

Here is the MSM "action line" and it shows this is 100% BS!

Cheney isn't going anywhere.

No, The President nominates a new VP to be confirmed by the senate..oh boy

Surly this would be our time for the Constitutional Option to be put in place!! I can just hear the wailing, screaming, and ranting from the left!! They are so sure they are going to impeach Cheney so they can get him out of the way first (I never have figured out that logic). Maybe they would hope to filibuster anyone that GWB would pick, thereby leaving the post open and go after Bush's impeachment with the post open? All sorts of scenarios, but I don't believe he is leaving, other than if he has a health reason to.

I hope the VP stays. He's no liability to the president.

If somehow the dumbocrats were able to take over Capitol Hill in the mid-term elections, then Bush might want to have a more politically viable candidate in the #2 slot. The reason being that the dummies have made it clear that they would try to impeach Bush if they had control of the House. They'd think twice about that if their stupid tactics actually worked and they put the 2008 GOP candidate in the Oval Office.

Think you are correct - that is why the libs are always ranting about taking out Cheney and GWB together (along with Rummy). Impeach Bush and Cheney

And this silly stuff doesn't have one named source in the entire piece. Not one! They've created a non-news story without any basis in fact.

Standard news media modus operandi these days. Make it up and pass on to the population as a "news piece". There otta be a law about telling the truth when something is called "news".

Continue to read Peggy Noonan.
She thinks on a similar plane as Ronald Reagan and Thomas Jefferson did - politically and philosophically.
And to be honest, a lot of folks, especially the Republicans, misconstrue or simply don't understand the points she conveys.

I think some were saying the same thinga about a month after Bush got elected the first time.

The Dems keep floating these, hoping that it will become true.

"Since Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert is # 2 in the line of presidential succession, doesn't he automatically move up to V.P.?"

NOPE. The Prez appoints a VEEP, just like Nixon appointed Gerald Ford after Askew resigned.

Could we please read through the whole thread before we answer a question? That's about the 1000th time that's been answered.

I also heard Zarqawi may be in custody!

Reminds me of the National Enquire headline "Bigfoot Escapes."

The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.

The main political liabilities for President Bush are (and have been):
1) His own poor (= anti-conservative) decisions (which have been too plentiful).
2) Abysmally poor PR by the Bush Administration.
3) RINO and limp "Republican" politicians.

In his favor, Bush delivered on his campaign promises to bring forth a morally competent administration, tax reduction, a couple of seemingly great SCOTUS justices, and many other deliverables.

On balance, I would level my greatest criticism upon the reckless growth of federal (nonmilitary) spending, lack of border control, and extremely poor political PR.

Why after the elections? The dems will block anybody who they perceive might be a candidate in '08 (except McCain - b/c they will pick up a Sen seat if he leaves). At the present time it will be difficult to block - after the election things might be different.
