Cheney seen retiring after midterm elections (Drudge Siren)

Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year.
Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.
The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs. They cited Mr. Cheney's failure to immediately tell the president of the accidental shooting of the vice president's hunting colleague earlier this month. The White House didn't learn of the incident until 18 hours later.

Well, ANYONE in that position is going to be a "hate-magnet", if they are a Republican. You could put Condi Rice in there tomorrow, and within 72 hours you would have articles trashing her experience, her personal life, her eduction, and her actions as Secretary of State.
John McCain would get the same treatment. You would be amazed at what the press suddenly would discover.
Cheney should stay where he is. However, I don't think he should run because of the health issue.

I have been predicting this for a year.
And yes, Condi will get the slot.
She will run (and win) in 08 as an incumbent.
Bush calls her "44" for a reason.
Cheers,

If he's a political liablity why wait until after the elections? What might make sense is that Cheney wants out but doesn't want to screw Dubya or the GOP for the mid-terms.Cheney's not going anywhere. There's another hurricane season coming up and he would never miss a chance to play with his hurricane machine.

Bush with Condi as VP... One of my friends said that scenario would be ideal to set up for Condi running for President in 2008.
To: everyone
Bad idea. Cheney is one of the few real conservatives in this administration. Also, he's more qualified than anyone else in the country to be president. Also, Bush would look like a wimp. Also, the Senate wouldn't confirm a strong conservative as veep.

If the president appointed a worthy VP, it would be an excellent opportunity to give some name recognition to a potential '08 nominee.Considering how far left the media leans, it's practically the only opportunity to get name recognition for a Republican presidential nominee. The MSM will do what they can to keep a Republican unknown, unknown.

This whole article is garbage. There is no rift between Chaney and Bush. Isn't it interesting that no names are ever given as sources of this trash.

Amendment XXV requires confirmation by BOTH houses of Congress, unlike all other appointments, which are confirmed by the Senate only.

I agree, rift is very doubtful. But Cheney could have his own reasons that defy every angle that the public can see.
Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow-moonbat broke up three weeks ago. No one could explain it. Then, out of the blue, she had breast cancer surgery. I am not intending to bring the presidential office to the level of entertainment, but obviously that's how at least some of America sees it, given this article.

If Cheney and Dubya went hunting together and shot each other, then Hastert would become the President.
Now that would be the way to go! LOL!

I'd like to see the shoot out between their respective Secret Service details.
Just kidding, of course.

WHY?
What if she a) doesnt want it, or
b) sucked at it?
Almost any GOP nominee could nuke Shrillary.

That was from Insight, for a minute I thought it was Debka.
