Try a touch of Lagavulin, another Islay Isle native.
It rates an 86 from the pro tasters (the highest ever recorded), but you've got to love the smokey peat aroma to get to the glass for your first sip.

We call that bog people. Cuz it tastes just like the peat bogs. I love it. I have a very nice bottle of that that I got for my birthday one year. Have to drink it in very small amounts tho!

I've tried the Lagavulin at the same Scotch Tasting that inroduced me to Talisker. I prefer the Talisker, but to each his own.
Yea, the Golf Course my wife works at actually had the audacity to make her go to a Scotch tasting sponsored by Johny Walker. 7 single malts and all the JWs from Black to Blue.
I went as a guest, of course. To top it all off they actually paid her for her time.
Those bastiches....

It's sure got its critics, but 16yr Lagavulin is my favorite, on those rare occasions when I drink.
I was actually introduced to it at a competitor's distillery: Gelngoyne. Man there was nice enough to pour a taste, along with theirs. It was so distinctive and evocative, I got one of theirs, and a Lagavulin later.

No thanks. I’m neither a fan of scotch, nor Jameson’s. I’ll stick to Bushmill’s.

I love Lagavulin, and you’re exactly right. The smoky nose is a feature you’ll love or hate. I love it; lots hate it.
