The biggest problem is the differences between the denominations. Specifically, leftist vs right of center Christians. We will not be able to present a united front against "the threat" until we solve the differences between us as Christians. Can you imagine how powerful we would be if we solved those differences?

Well there are some things that are interesting to debate about but are not points of salvation (like pre/post tribulation) but there are some things out there which are borderline if not outright heresy.

First, there are no leftist "Christians" who are more interested in promoting Christianity than they are in promoting a leftist social order. Invariably these people are more interested in promoting the gospel of abortion, gay marriage, and the welfare state than anything out of the New Testament.
In other words, there are a whole lot of people running around under the banner of the PCUSA, ELCA, UCC, UMC, and Roman Catholicism who are in no sense Christian to begin with.
...but then again, Islam still kills its heretics.
