It Really Must Be A Slow News Day (Mountain Lion in CA)
myself | 2/26/2006 | Pyro7480

Posted on 02/27/2006 10:08:53 AM PST by Pyro7480

Both MSNBC and Fox News are covering a report that there's a mountain lion in a residential neighborhood somewhere in California.

It really reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons where a bear scrounged for food in Springfield, and the media and people overreacted to it.

My thoughts exactly.

They could do away with those alerts as most of them seem useless except for those living in the area that is affected.

In our immediate neighborhood, there was an adult cougar killed in a tree that overhung the sidewalk -- within a block of a school...

Lots of "Missing Cat & Dog" posters on our corner lamp posts.....and lots of cougar sightings...

One cougar attacked and nearly killed a runner, just a few miles from here...

The neighborhood has taken a SSS attitude...

Shoot, Shovel and Shut Up.

How long did it take before the White House contacted Ms. David Gregory on this?

Have you noticed how these enviros have become alarmed by the proliferation of large carnivores in the boonies? I saw one remark to the effect that bears, for example, do not seem to know their place on the "food chain." Why should they? Only man comes up with ideas like a food chain, and with man the idea only makes sense because man is armed. Without his weapons, man is by no means at the top of any food chain. On the contrary, he is down in fourth or fifth spot, depending upon the environment in which he lives. Primitive man was under no illusions about this, nor are the backwoods folk in India today. To a tiger, man is a morsel, as these unarmed joggers seem to be to a cougar, upon occasion. Man is man because he is always armed. That is something they do not teach in kindergarten, nor for that matter in high school. A youth becomes a man when he is first presented with his own personal weapon. That is his right of passage, and those who do not understand that are questionable members of a free society.

This reminds me of an article/review I read yesterday on the movie, "Network". (Seems it is being released again on DVD.)

Anyway, the writer was talking about Howard Beale - the news anchor - threatening to commit suicide on his last broadcast, and the network deciding to let it happen because it would be the highest rated news show ever.

The writer related the decision to today's news. He said that one evening recently, there was lots going on in the world, "but every news broadcast had a seven year old kid driving a car in traffic."

So, apparently we all haven't said "I'm mad as Hell and I not going to take it anymore!!"

In the scheme of things, it is not big news. But for the people who live there with pets and kids, it is a very big deal.

It shines the light on the Left's endangered species abuses and I like it covered - big time. It is like covering crime in a neighborhood. Everyone comes to understand the importance of enforcement and punishment only after they see the real murderous face of crime.

Man is man because he is always armed.

This is true, and true in another sense. Man's intellect and intelligence are his primary weapon, and, in many a formidable one at that. While anyone can leave their gun at home only liberal socialists can leave their brain at home. If you go armed in a world of predators, you are already using your best weapon, and by regularly using all your weapons, you can train predators below your top spot on the food chain to fear and avoid you and your kind. Much to the dismay of libs and PETA it always works. Enjoy being king of the mountain, relax and tend your weapon, you're there to stay.

San Diego also had a port fire this morning. Apparently one of the fancy-smancy boats caught on fire and took out 50 or so boats (http://www.kfmb.com}. Nobody injured. Turned out to probably be faulty wiring. These boats are valued in the millions.

This took place in San Diego harbor - near Seaport Village.

I heard that liberals taste like chicken, but old Marines make winter caps out of cougars and rugs out of bears. Spreading the word "over the hedge".

Since the bleeding hearts of CA outlawed lion hunting, they're all over the place like horsepucky. They breed like cats (imagine!) and have no predators without hunting.

Nothing to see here, folks.

Move along.
