Never has an article made me blink with astonishment as much as when I read in yesterday's New York Times magazine that Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi, former ambassador-at-large for the Taliban, is now studying at Yale on a U.S. student visa. This is taking the obsession that U.S. universities have with promoting diversity a bit too far.
Something is very wrong at our elite universities. Last week Larry Summers resigned as president of Harvard when it became clear he would lose a no-confidence vote held by politically correct faculty members furious at his efforts to allow ROTC on campus, his opposition to a drive to have Harvard divest itself of corporate investments in Israel, and his efforts to make professors work harder. Now Yale is giving a first-class education to an erstwhile high official in one of the most evil regimes of the latter half of the 20th century--the government that harbored the terrorists who attacked America on Sept. 11, 2001.
"In some ways," Mr. Rahmatullah told the New York Times. "I'm the luckiest person in the world. I could have ended up in Guantanamo Bay. Instead I ended up at Yale." One of the courses he has taken is called Terrorism-Past, Present and Future.

We have idiots running the government. No checks, balances or accountability. We probably would be better off without all the Kings and Queens we set upon the throne.
I vote for Gitmo! Yale, Harvard, why does anyone pay the exorbitant tuition to go to these 'institutions'?
/speechless
I have plenty to say about once terrorists and their former supporters but I wouldn't want to be called a racist, So I'm left with the only option availiable. I can only shrug my shoulders and say "Oh well" theres lots more like him here."
spurious multiculturalism Harvard Alumni your school has been taken over by idiots!! Stop all funding!!!!
Congress should step in here as this does reach Presidential awarness! Throw this BUM, Mr. Rahmatullah, out of the country! Call your elected and demand this man's visa be revoked!
Also many who would jump at the chance to join the Taliban.
Glad to see our tax dollars going to support crap like this.

These people are not "former supporters" by any stretch of the imagination. After 9/11, we found out the terrorists who killed thousands had been living here and going to our schools and universities, just like this person is. Only difference, is they are doing it out in the open with the help of the anti-American activist liberal academia.
Both Yale and Harvard are guilty of stupidity when it comes to bending, nay, disregarding American values and making room for the unthinkable - people who are responsible for the deaths of our young men and women.
next he'll end up working at the State Dept. or Los Alamos laboratory.
The left has taken over these places, hard to believe that Robert Bork was actually a Law professor at Yale at one time.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I highly doubt this guy is paying.
As a private institution, Yale gets very little of its funding from the government. The bulk of its operating budget, endowment, and private scholarships come from loyal alumni.
In essence, it is the past gifts of Yale alumni which are funding this man's studies now.
And as the article suggests, people in the Yale administration decided to accept this character who had basically zero education, zero means, and served an energetic foe of the United States, and give him full boat funding.
For an American student of similar background, being admitted would be largely impossible. A funding package like that for an American of similar background would be surreal.
Well, it's all about diversity, don't you know...
I'm somewhat hopeful that Skull and Bones doesn't want him as a member.
"Yale, Harvard, why does anyone pay the exorbitant tuition to go to these 'institutions'?
"
So they can grow up to be the President?
"spurious multiculturalism Harvard Alumni your school has been taken over by idiots!! Stop all funding!!!! "
That's odd. You're calling on Harvard Alumni, when the school in question is Yale. Are you sure you read the story?
I'm not so sure this guy actually lucked out.
I took a few steps back and tried to look at the big picture. What I saw is ugly. A premier American school has given favored treatment to a foreign national who shouldn't have been issued a visa, at the expense of at least one worthy and deserving American citizen. Yale has turned its back on its own country and countrymen, and instead granted priviledged treatment to someone who was an avowed enemy of the United States and its way of life. For shame.
Harvard, Schmarvard! It doesn't make any difference!!
Each and every one of these "elite" Ivy League schools are putrid hotbeds crammed full of Communists, feminists, transgenderists, Islamists, Greenists (but, I'm repeating myself) and other assorted nutty Anti-Americanists. Not a one of them has any resemblance or affinity to the genuine America, unless one classifies Berkeley as the "genuine America".
They should send the entire lot packing to Iran - or maybe Gaza - where they would be much more comfortable with the academic environment. Then they wouldn't have to put up with an occasional (rejected) request for an Ann Coulter speech or an ROTC meeting.
These founding fathers of these wretched schools are no doubt spinning in their graves.
