It was advertised as a piece about how an American soldier helped liberate Torino from the Germans in WWII.
This particular soldier, Vernon Baker, happens to be black, and of course, fitting the MSM template, Brokaw had to steer the story to how racist America was and still is now. The word "Torino" was mentioned maybe five times. But the words "racist", "racism", "white officers" and "n-----" were repeated ad nauseum.
It went on for nearly an hour. By the end, Brokaw had cast a more favorable light on the German army than our own. Typical. :-/
"Bode Miller is the best partier Torino has ever seen! You greedy medal grabbing Americans don't understand the commitment it takes to be the best partier in Italy during the Olympics!"
LOL! Who invited him?
Exactly ... like the NBC non-coverage of the balloon hitting a light pole during the last Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
Scary clowns bopping around, playing "YMCA" in Turin, Italy... am I awake or having a nightmare?
Is that Perry Como singing 'Mambo Italiano'?
I know, it really saddens me when I talk about these things because there ARE skier wannabes out there who ARE busting their butts who would give God knows what to be in Miller's shoes and would bring honor to our country. For heaven's sakes, look at Daron Rahlves and his lackluster career but you have never read anything derogatory about him and his behavior. He just goes about his business doing what he loves to do without causing any controversy. What is so hard about that?
My most memorable olympians have to be Mark Spitz, Eric Heiden and that little spitfire Bonnie Blair! Swimming and speedskating certainly aren't considered high profile and revenue generating sports so I think they epitomize the true spirit of what the olympics is all about: Kids doing what they love the most and sacrificing everything else to be the best they can be.
FWIW, Mark Spitz is now a dentist, Eric Heiden is a doctor and Bonnie Blair is an I don't now what.........
Holy cow ... glad I missed it.
I don't know. I can't hear or see anything.
Now I for sure will have nightmares tonight....
Does anybody get why there are a bunch of people dressed like aviators from about the 1920's?
"A protester interrupts the speech by TOROC President Valentino Castellani (L) during the closing ceremony of the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, February 26, 2006. REUTERS/Andy Clark"
I'm kinda surprised that Bryant Gumbel (or is that Dumbo?) wasn't the "protester".
Kerry voter
LOL... now some music by Paolo Conte... nice.
Does anybody get why there are a bunch of people dressed like aviators from about the 1920's?
I've been wondering that myself....
anybody know what he was protesting?
Nothing reported yet.
Was he protesting the NBC coverage?
"KELLIE PICKLER ROCKS!"
...it won't be complete without Sinatra
