While Sen. Hillary Clinton has become one of the most vocal critics of the Bush administration's plan to allow Dubai Ports World to run six major U.S. ports, Bill Clinton has been silent on the hot-button issue.
That's probably because the former president has repeatedly urged closer ties between the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates over the years - not to mention the fact that he's accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from the country's leaders, and even sponsors a college scholarship program that sends U.S. students to study in the UAE.
The web site for Mr. Clinton's presidential foundation proudly boasts:
"With an aim to create a partnership for bridging the gap of cultural understanding between America and the Arab world, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Scholars at the American University in Dubai.
"In partnership with the American University in Dubai and in the spirit of a strong relationship with HH Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, this program is a means to promote cultural understanding and further Dubai's achievements to promote multiculturalism and economic development."
The Dubai university is apparently very proud to have Mr. Clinton in their corner. The application for the Clinton scholarship available on the school's web site proclaims:
"The William Jefferson Clinton Scholars at the American University in Dubai seeks to further the goals of the Clinton Presidential Foundation to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence."
The school's website also features photos of President Clinton and Sheik Mohammed, taken when the two rubbed shoulders at the Fifth Commencement Exercises at the university.
Sheik Mohammed, who also serves as the UAE's Defense Minister, would undoubtedly be less than amused by Mrs. Clinton's recent comments suggesting that his country is an unreliable ally in the war on terror. Especially after he forked over $300,000 to her husband for a 40 minute speech a few years back.
On Jan. 17, 2002, Mr. Clinton addressed the Science, Technology and Arts Royal Summit in Dubai at the sheik's invitation.
According to Mideast news coverage at the time, Clinton used his speech to call for an economic and technological alliance against terrorism between the U.S. and the UAE.
No wonder Mr. Clinton has yet to echo his wife's comments on the Dubai ports takeover.

And Bill had no problem with Chinese state controlled COSCO to
manage port terminals in California. COSCO now has 50% of the terminals in LA
The UAE gave at least one million to Clinton's library.
Then you get your chance, and thank God you're in a liberal state, because it is dawning on everyone--even yourself--that you're not as freakin' smart as you always thought you were, that you are just another hack who parrots the party line, and you are frustrated that people don't like you the way they do your husband, who you KNOW you're smarter than.
Must suck bein' her.
The hypocrisy of Hillary is unbelievable. Anything for votes.
Two words that don't exactly elicit the warm and fuzzies in yours truly, Tom Friedman's rhapsodic testimonials to the beauty of the global village notwithstanding.

Anyway, I was looking for a pair of shoes.
I couldn't find a single one that was not manufactured in China.
In fact, almost all the textiles that I've seen in recent memory have either been made there, in Vietnam, Indonesia, Honduras, or Pakistan.
yep, we are dependant on the world for certain things, we like low prices and thats the price we pay.

I don't think it matters so much when he received the money so much as when he agreed to receive the money.
