TORINO, Italy -- The annual spring meetings of the U.S. Ski Team are going to be pretty ugly in April. You're going to see a lot of administration and coaching changes, particularly on the men's side.
Picabo Street retired from competitive Alpine skiing racing in 2002. The two-time Olympic medalist will file reports for NBCOlympics.com throughout the Torino Games. Coming out of these Olympics, the federation is going to struggle for support, and it's not because they didn't win enough medals. It's because of the behavior of the athletes.
On The Today Show earlier this week, I addressed the problems I saw in the U.S. Ski Team -- maturity, professionalism and Julia Mancuso 's tiara among them. This was before she won a gold medal.

What's wrong with the girl wearing a tiara? Really.
How about that racist Gumbel?
Opps! Let's hear more about professionalism and maturity from someone named Peakaboo.
You understand she wears the tiara DURING the race.
The only thing more silly would be wearing a fake gold medal while racing.
The team was arrogant and selfish and didn't treat other team members with respect. A certain team member was flying high on a corporate contract, where was the incentive to produce results, he already had the money.
LOL!!! Why does he think we actually watch skiing?
It's Picabo. And I believe she got it from her parents.
What are you getting at? Picabo got her name from her hippie parents. I've never heard of Picabo pulling the childish antics she is writing about.
They are learning from professional athletes
I know...I saw it...and it made me remember her. GEEZ...she almost made the stupid race entertaining for me. I said, ALMOST.
Very few of them seemed hungry enough to go for the gold. That said, the Japanese ice skater deserved the gold medal. The TV commentators tried to diminish her performance by saying she didn't have to produce the same level of difficulty after Sasha Cohen fell, but acc. to the stats, the Japanese girl produced many difficult moves and executed them flawlessly, with grace and style. She deserved the gold. She blew out skaters off the ice.
Bode's toast, as are his endorsement opportunities. He looked like he wasn't even trying in the slalom today (before his DQ) -- completely disinterested, not attacking the gates.
His post-race comments: "It does matter that it's the Olympics. I just did it my way. I'm not a martyr, and I'm not a do-gooder. I just want to go out and rock. And man, I rocked here."
No Bode, you didn't "rock." You sucked.
Speaking of gold medals.... has anyone noticed that the Turin medals look like CDs? The silver ones especially.
..it occurred to me to.
LOL.. you are right. Mostly because they have holes in the middle.
My gut tells me the next headline in Bode Miller's biography is going to be how he killed himself in a DUI accident.
I noticed that. When I first saw them, I thought they were giving out CDs.
Yes, it's an easy assumption to make. So sad, the way they all fell apart.
You know this reminds me of how sooooo many public school and kids of mostly liberals are treated......no MATTER what they DO....they are told.....YOU did GREAT!!!! (for their Self Esteem....barf.)
